What’s the story?

New Japan Pro Wrestling is currently touring down under in Australia performing in four cities over four nights. NJPW has seen great crowds in support from Australia and the tour has already been a great success. The tour was announced on very short notice, only giving fans two months prior to the arrival of the New Japan roster.

The main event last night was a six-man tag match seeing Okada and Chaos take on Kenny Omega and the Bullet Club. The match was a great showcase which had fans out of their seats including a great moment with Okada and Kenny Omega face to face in the middle of the ring.

The finish of the match has the internet talking, as Kenny Omega and Cody have added to their intriguing rivalry.

In case you did not know…

There has been tension rising between Kenny Omega and Cody, since NJPW New Beginning in Sapporo, where it seemed Cody turned on Kenny after losing his IWGP United States Championship to Jay White.

A power struggle storyline has been looming, with more tension and pieces to the story being added via recent episodes of 'Being the Elite.' A huge match between the two has been announced to take place at ROH Supercard of Honor on Wrestlemania Saturday in New Orleans.

The heart of the matter

During the night in Melbourne, Cody was seen making his own fun of Kenny Omega, seemingly using Omega's terminator pose. The two did not have an interaction as such during the night, but it is certainly interesting that such important pieces to the storytelling of this personal feud has taken place at a house show event on tour in Australia.

The footage that had people talking was Kenny Omega seen using Cody's finisher, the Cross Rhodes, before his One-Winged Angel.

What’s next?

New Japan has two more dates until they conclude their very successful Australian tour. The next key event to take place will be Honor Rising: Japan on February 23 & 24 in Tokyo.

The main event on February 24 will see Kota Ibushi and Kenny Omega versus Bullet Club (Marty Scurll and Cody.) With fans counting down to this highly anticipated match up, each event featuring both stars will look to continue to build the excitement to Supercard of Honour.

Author's Take

Kenny Omega is a proven top star of any company he is featured in, and Cody has turned himself into one of the best heels on the independent scene. This match is going to be one remembered by fans for a long time, and it seems that the build-up will very much the same.
