What’s the story?

While recently speaking with Tokyo Sports, NJPW Superstar Kenny Omega spoke about a host of topics.

One of the rather interesting subject that ‘The Cleaner’ talked about, was regarding the one person whom he would like to have at ringside with him, for his upcoming IWGP Heavyweight Championship match against Kazuchika Okada.

In case you didn’t know…

At the recently concluded NJPW: Wrestling Dontaku event, ‘The Rainmaker’ Kazuchika Okada defended his IWGP Heavyweight Championship for the 12th successive time against his long-time rival Hiroshi Tanahashi.

This match which also received a 5 1/2 star rating from The Observer’s Dave Meltzer.

Following Okada’s win, he went on to call out his next challenger Kenny Omega, and agreed to put his Championship belt on the line against ‘The Best Bout Machine’ in a two out of three falls match with no time limit in order to ensure that there is no possibility of a draw between both men as in previous matches between the two.

The heart of the matter

During his interview with Tokyo Sports, Kenny Omega stated that the city of Osaka certainly holds a special place in his heart. That is why he now wants to come up with a match that could possibly break all sorts of barriers and make history.

Omega, in addition, noted that there is a lot of tradition attached to the IWGP Heavyweight Championship and he definitely respects the 45-year history of New Japan Pro Wrestling.

However, simultaneously Omega also wants to give the modern fans a completely new experience by winning the IWGP Heavyweight Title.

Furthermore, Omega also claimed that he would love to have the support of his partner Kota Ibushi at ringside at the upcoming Dominion pay-per-view, when Omega will once again go to war against the very resilient Kazuchika Okada. (Translation Courtesy: Chris Charlton on Twitter)

“I now have a perfect training partner (in Ibushi). He’s made my weaknesses stronger. If he’s okay with it, I want him to be at ringside for the match. I don’t need interference or anything like that, just for support.”

What’s next?

Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada will battle each other on the 9th of June, 2018 at the Osaka-jō Hall at the Dominion 6.9 pay-per-view.

Author’s Take

As much as I love the duo of The Golden Lovers, it’ll definitely be very hard to witness Omega win the IWGP Heavyweight Championship without The Young Bucks in his corner.
