What’s the story?
New Japan Pro Wrestling have announced the main event for their Dominion show on June 11th. It will be a rematch of the instant classic between Kenny Omega vs. Kazuchika Okada from Wrestle Kingdom 11.
The Background
Okada and Omega shook up the entire wrestling world back in January of this year when they put on a match that is widely considered one of the greatest of all time. It seemed inevitable that these two rivals would cross paths again in the future as the fans were crying out for a rematch. As revealed by last night’s announcement, the fans will get their wish at NJPW’s Dominion show next month.
The heart of the matter
The conclusion of NJPW’s Dontaku event last night saw Okada retain his IWGP Heavyweight Championship against Omega’s fellow Bullet Club member, Bad Luck Fale, in the main event.
After the match, Omega helped Fale to the back while Okada celebrated his victory. However, the IWGP Champion would then choose that moment to announce his opponent for the upcoming Dominion show, which is considered NJPW’s second biggest show of the year, behind Wrestle Kingdom.
Okada called Omega back to the ring for a quick stare down before raising his championship belt above his head, thus setting up one of the most anticipated rematches in recent memory.

What’s next?
The June 11th show is going to be a must-see event for fans of Japanese wrestling and is sure to attract some casual fans too. After their ‘Match of the Year’ candidate earlier this year, it will be interesting to see what Omega and Okada have in store for their Dominion bout.
Author’s Take
There will certainly be a lot of pressure on them to deliver a worthy sequel to their classic Wrestle Kingdom match, but both men are certainly capable of putting on another masterpiece.
Kazuchika Okada has been a part of multiple highly rated matches recently, with another 5-star rated match coming just last month against Katsuyori Shibata at NJPW’s Sakura Genesis. As for Omega, he is arguably the biggest wrestling star outside of WWE right now and is in the prime of his career.
Whether Okada and Omega can come close to creating the same magic they did back in January remains to be seen, but simply seeing then come face-to-face again is going to be a special moment and will surely lead to a fantastic match.
