What’s the story?

New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Michael Elgin has decided to apologize to his former NJPW tag team partner Jeff Cobb after making a few unacceptable comments towards Cobb during the 2017 NJPW: World Tag League.

In case you didn’t know…

During the NJPW World Tag League last year, former Lucha Underground Champion Jeff Cobb made his debut for New Japan Pro Wrestling as part of the World Tag League. Cobb was originally scheduled to team up with his usual tag team partner Matt Riddle at the WTL but due to some on-going issues Riddle was unable to perform under the NJPW banner and Cobb was paired up with former IWGP Intercontinental Champion Michael Elgin.

However, a conversation between Michael Elgin and one of his students was leaked last month, and in the conversation, Elgin was seen making some denigrate comments towards his student and additionally the woman also released a part of the conversation where Elgin was particularly seen bashing Jeff Cobb.

The heart of the matter

Michael Elgin has recently decided to put out a statement saying that the comments that he made towards his World Tag League partner Jeff Cobb were totally unacceptable. Elgin stated at the time of the conversation, he personally was going through a lot in his life and had a lot going on, and Big Mike unfairly decided to take out all his frustrations on Jeff Cobb instead. Elgin also stated that Cobb is not only a great performer but he is also one of the nicest persons Big Mike has ever met in his career.

The former Ring of Honor World Champion also claimed that ever since the incident took place, he has directly spoken with Cobb and his other colleagues directly and Elgin now hopes that Cobb and the rest accept Big Mike’s apology.

“I’ve spoken to him and other colleagues directly and hope they accepted my apology. He deserves praise for his performance and he is a true asset to any company he’s involved in, I truly hope he becomes a big part of NJPW this year.”- Michael Elgin stated.

What’s next?

Despite the recent allegations against him, Michael Elgin still continues to work for NJPW and it looks like he will continue to do so until his contract expires.

The Canadian star has been a huge part of the company and is also a former IWGP IC Champion and Never Openweight Tag Team Champion. Furthermore, he was also part of the first ever ladder match that took place in NJPW.

Author’s Take

This behaviour by Michael Elgin was just disgusting in my opinion, I believe that the man is hugely talented inside the squared circle but his career might just well and be in danger because of his recent actions.
