NJPW News: Will Ospreay wins Best of Super Juniors 2016

Will Ospreay is the first British wrestler to win BOSJ

Just a few months after making his New Japan Pro Wrestling debut, Will Ospreay has already made his mark by winning this years Best of Super Juniors tournament and in turn winning a shot at the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship against last years BOSJ winner, Kushida. The victory came at Tokyo’s famous Korakuen Hall, making Ospreay the first ever British winner of the BOSJ tournament.

The Best of Super Juniors is one of the most prestigious tournaments in wrestling today with former winners including Chris Benoit, Finn Balor, Kota Ibushi and Ricochet. The competition is a round-robin style tournament with the participants divided in groups with the respective winners moving on to the final.

This years final was between newcomer Ospreay and NJPW stalwart Rysuke Taguchi. The match went back and forth with Ospreay putting on a jaw dropping display and holding on to finally eke out the win over the veteran.
