What’s the story?

As per recently confirmed by Ring of Honor Wrestling, former ROH Television Champion and current New Japan Pro Wrestling Superstar Tomohiro Ishii will make his return to ROH later this year, as part of the company’s Supercard of Honor pay-per-view.

In case you didn’t know…

Tomohiro Ishii has been a part of New Japan Pro Wrestling since the year 2004 and throughout his NJPW career, Ishii has proved himself to be one of the pioneers of the company where he has been putting up some of the best matches against the likes of Kenny Omega, Kazuchika Okada, and Katsuyori Shibata.

The heart of the matter

Much like every other NJPW Superstar, Ishii has also previously competed in an ROH ring as part of NJPW’s working relationship with ROH.

Back in 2016, “The Stone Pitbull” shocked Ring of Honor fans after successfully capturing the ROH World TV Title following an impressive win over then-champion Roderick Strong.

Ishii, who has dominated NJPW’s Never Openweight division for the past few years, is now set to make a return to the United States later this year as part of ROH: Supercard of Honor 2018, as he joins the likes of Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kota Ibushi, and Keny Omega.

Additionally, ROH also teased the possibility of Ishii invoking his rematch clause for the ROH TV Title, which he lost back in 2016 to Bobby Fish.

What’s next?

ROH: Supercard of Honor 2018 takes place during WrestleMania 34 weekend in New Orleans and the show will be main-evented by the much-anticipated one-on-one bout between Bullet Club’s Kenny Omega and Cody Rhodes.

Author’s Take

Personally, I think this is the perfect time for ROH to book Ishii in either a singles match against the likes of Punisher Martinez or Silas Young.
