No more magazines from the WWE as they look to cut down costs

WWE annually publishes two magazines, the WWE Magazine and WWE Kids, along with it they also publish some periodic special magazines. But now, after the release of their annual report, they have decided not to publish anymore.

September issue will be the final ones

This is part of their cost cutting initiative as the revenue and profits from them have been on the decline in recent years. In the year 2003, the net units sold amounted to 6.4 million, but it has dropped to 1.8 million in 2013. Also, recent reports indicate that Smackdown might be reverting back to being aired on Thursdays like it was the case before.

It looks like the September issue for WWE Kids and the October issue for the WWE Magazine will be the final magazines from the WWE. The magazines are being published for three decades and last year it was available in the digital form.

The Kids magazine was published from the year 2008 and the WWE describes it as a bi-monthly publication for 6-14 year old WWE fans. For a brief period of two years, there were two separate magazines for Raw and Smackdown before they were merged again in the year 2006.

A sad decision for long time fans

The magazine’s history goes all the way back to 1983 when it was called the WWF Victory Magazine. Then it became the WWF magazine, and in 2002 when the company was renamed as WWE, the magazine’s name also changed. Also in 1996, they had a separate RAW magazine.

Also, since it has been made accessible in the digital form, WWE’s WWEShop.com makes it easier to access it, thus reducing the direct-mail catalog sales. At a time when methods to cut down costs are being employed, the decision is not entirely surprising, but still it is a sad one for fans who have been following the WWE for many years now. So many took to Twitter to express their disappointment at this decision. But hopefully this isn’t the end and in the future we may see the magazine being brought back.
