Not too long ago it was reported that Dean Ambrose was leaving WWE when his contract was up shortly after WrestleMania. The reports ran rampant with speculation of why he was leaving and if it could be a work. I wrote a few weeks ago about Ambrose possibly changing his mind if the storyline and his character development continued. I outlined why the echoes of Dean’s burial were overstated and how his losses during his losing streak had valid reasons. He was still taking valuable television time and storylines away from other deserving members of the roster, which doesn't make sense for a superstar who has no future in the company.
Three weeks ago Dean went out and beat EC3, evening the score after losing to him the previous week. These last two weeks Ambrose followed up that win with two enthralling weeks of character development.
Let’s start with that slap. Oh My! That was a compelling segment, and even though he again lost the match he had another decent showing, and his promo with Rollins following the loss was hysterical hinting at the 'Lunatic Fringe' character we've all been waiting on.
With each passing week, Ambrose’s character gets better and better. Quite frankly, this is the most compelling his character has been in years.
On Monday night this week, he interrupted Elias and had a funny exchange with him that ended in Elias getting hit with a Dirty Deeds. During the interruption, Ambrose challenged McIntyre to a no DQ match that would take place near the end of the show. Although Ambrose was pinned again by McIntyre after getting some help from Elias, it was another good showing in the ring.
After the match, Lashley and Corbin joined Elias and McIntyre to beat up on Ambrose before Rollins and Reigns came out for the save. They didn’t say anything to Ambrose nor did they stay in the ring with them, but it was heavily hinted that The Shield is reuniting soon.
If the continued prominent television time and interesting character development weren’t enough to convince you that Dean Ambrose was not leaving the WWE, the news that one of his best friends, Roman Reigns, is in remission and the events that occurred last night have to solidify the point. It seems as the talk of Ambrose leaving has quieted down after last night and justifiably so. It’s time we look at the whole situation as a possible “work” in an attempt to gain the fan support Dean lost due to injury, a stale character, and bad writing.
