Opinion: We could have 2 brand new Grand Slam Champions at WrestleMania

Who will join the elite list of Superstars at WrestleMania?
Who will join the elite list of Superstars at WrestleMania?

WWE recognizes a superstar as a grand slam champion under the modern format if he has won either one of the world championships, both secondary championships, and the tag team championship.

Twelve superstars have earned the distinction so far, and we can add two more to the numbers if Rey Mysterio and Kofi Kingston are victorious at WrestleMania.

Both Rey Mysterio and Kofi Kingston have had a decorated career with the WWE with the former being a multiple time World Champion.

Rey Mysterio is a former 2-time World Heavy Weight Champion, 1-time WWE Champion, 2-time Intercontinental Champion and a 4-time Tag Team Champion.

He will challenge Samoa Joe for the United States Championship at WrestleMania and will have to be victorious to complete his grand slam collection.

Kofi Kingston, on the other hand, is a former 4-time Intercontinental Champion, 3-time United States Champion, and an 8-time Tag Team Champion.

Only the world title has evaded Kofi Kingston in his illustrious career in the WWE. That can change at WrestleMania 35 if Kingston can dethrone Daniel Bryan and win the WWE Championship.

While Rey Mysterio’s path to WrestleMania is clear, Kofi Kingston’s may have to dodge some obstacles to book his place in the WWE title match at the grandest stage of them all.

Kingston overcame the odds in a grueling gauntlet match defeating five other superstars to have seemingly earned his spot at WrestleMania only to get screwed over by Vince McMahon once again.

With only two weeks left until WrestleMania, we can expect WWE to name Kofi Kingston as the official challenger for the WWE Championship on this week’s episode of SmackDown Live.

Should Kofi Kingston and Rey Mysterio become the newest addition to the list of grand slam champions? Sound off in the comments below.
