WWE: Possible outcomes of CM Punk vs. Curtis Axel match at Night of Champions

Punk vs. Axel

CM Punk, after being assaulted by Paul Heyman and Curtis Axel last week, delivered a strong promo on RAW. It became very clear that Punk is now desperate to get his hands on Axel, and more specifically Heyman, at Night of Champions.

The bout started in the Money in the Bank PPV when Heyman cost Punk the opportunity to get hold of the Money in the Bank briefcase. Since then Punk has been on an unending quest to get his hands on Heyman. The best in the world has had to face the tough obstacle of Brock Lesnar, and despite losing to him at SummerSlam has remained defiant and gone ahead in his hunger for revenge.

Though Heyman has managed to remain unscathed till now, RAW two weeks back showed just how dangerous Punk can be. The Wolverine nearly got hold of his former manager and thanks to Axel, Heyman managed to turn the tables around. But it’s not too long for that time to return again as Heyman will have to brace himself when he will face Punk at Night of Champions.

So with such a huge match at bay, what are the possible outcomes that we can expect from it? How will these results affect the storyline? Let us now look at the most possible results that we can make Night of Champions interesting.

1. Punk beats Axel and gets his hand on Heyman

This is the simplest result that will also put an end to this feud. The feud lost a lot of meaning the moment Lesnar vanished from the storyline. Though Axel is made to look strong, he lacks the charisma and the ‘it’ factor that Lesnar had.

The only thing that this feud has managed to do is make Punk look less weak. Hence it is prudent that the feud is allowed to end with Punk getting his hands on Heyman.

2. Punk beats Axel, but out comes a new Heyman guy

For those who do not wish to see the feud end, this angle can be interesting. This particular angle has been in discussion for quite some time now, as not many are happy with Axel being projected as Heyman’s only client. Fans have been demanding a new client to enter the storyline, which will possibly allow Axel to continue his chores with the Intercontinental Title.

After beating Axel, Punk can get his hands on Heyman but could be stopped by a new Heyman guy in the form of Wade Barrett or any other wrestler in need of a spotlight. Plus Heyman can bring out that Axel has been a disappointment as his client – especially after losing to Kofi Kingston – thereby forcing him to find a new recruit. This way Axel can get out of this feud and blame Kingston for the happenings.

There are several different options that WWE can come up with as far as Heyman’s new client is concerned. Barrett looks like a deserving choice and has been around for sometime in the business now. Pitching him against Punk will not only give his character greater meaning but will also ensure the storyline stays fresh.

Axel and Heyman

Another interesting character that the WWE can introduce into the storyline is the Wyatt Family. As odd as it may sound, the Wyatts have been doing nothing other than eerie promos on the titantron and it is high time we saw them in a feud. Their feud against Kane ended in a bit of disappointment after a worthless Ring of Fire match in SummerSlam. Including Bray Wyatt as the newest guy will give Punk a stern competition to overcome.

3. Punk and Heyman get involved in the corporation storyline

This could be a great inclusion into the corporation storyline that sadly is become stale, even though it is into its third week. Daniel Bryan, who is on the lookout for help, could get the best in the world. Bryan and Punk, who are indy darlings, can team up to be a great team.

This feud can then get built running into Survivor Series, where Bryan and Punk recruit wrestlers with indy backgrounds – like Cesaro and NXT wrestlers like Sami Zayn and Kassius Ohno – to set up a classic Survivor Series match against Triple H, Randy Orton and The Shield.

4. Punk’s inclusion into the World Title picture

It’s been quite some time since we’ve seen Punk challenge the World Heavyweight Title and the Night of Champions looks the perfect place for Punk to get involved. Rob Van Dam takes on Alberto Del Rio for the World Title, and Heyman could use his former ECW wrestler RVD for some help against Punk.

RVD can win the title from ADR, who looks really dull as a Champion at the moment and then interfere in Punk’s match to protect Heyman. Punk and RVD can then fight it out, which will also allow Punk to challenge him for the title.
