MMA News: Possible news on CM Punk's next MMA fight revealed

UFC 203: Miocic v Overeem
CM Punk

What's the story?

CM Punk left WWE burned out and ready to move on, and jumped into the Octagon for a quick loss at UFC 203. But is his next fight just around the corner?

In case you didn’t know...

CM Punk has never been one to stay away from challenges in his life. He's faced adversity around every turn and is no stranger to asserting himself into any situation regardless of familiarity.

Pro wrestling was a tiresome grind and CM Punk was burned out of the sport he once held such a deep passion for. There were apparently some backstage issues as well which made things even more miserable for Punk.

Regardless of reason, CM Punk walked out of WWE after the 2014 Royal Rumble and he hasn't looked back so far.

The heart of the matter

CM Punk made his MMA debut at UFC 203 to much fanfare but it wouldn't stop Mickey Gall from making him submit to a rear naked choke at two minutes and fourteen seconds into the first round of their fight.

It's been almost a year since Punk's last UFC fight. He's appeared on reality television, trained hard, and supported his wife AJ Lee while she promoted her autobiography. But so far CM Punk has yet to step back into the cage.

All that might be changing soon enough because Coach Duke Roufus posted a picture of CM Punk on Instagram saying he is currently training and awaiting a fight confirmation.

What's next?

This post didn't specify where CM Punk would be fighting. It only said he was awaiting confirmation for a fight. It's been speculated in the past UFC might not put as much promotion in Punk the next time due to how he performed in his last fight assuming UFC wants him to fight for them at all. Bellator might be a suitable option for Punk as well.

But even if he wouldn't move the needle in a big way for pay-per-view buys, if UFC put Punk on television, people would certainly tune in and watch it for free.

Author's take

It is bittersweet to write an article about CM Punk's MMA career for me because I would love to see him wrestle again. But at the same time, I want Punk to be happy. He seems to be enjoying what he's doing so good for him.

Let's just hope the next time he steps in the Octagon he has a better showing. After all, one more big loss for CM Punk might discredit him too much in the eyes of the MMA world who already had a strike against him because he came from pro wrestling.
