Russell was best known for his work in the Memphis region of the US, therefore dubbed 'the voice of Memphis Wrestling'. He passed away at the age of 91, leaving a legacy unmatched and paving the way for generations of professional wrestling announcers.

Another man who is synonymous with Memphis Wrestling, Jerry 'The King' Lawler paid tribute to his longtime friend on social media, calling him the 'greatest wrestling commentator' ever. He attributed much of his success to Mr. Russell.

In addition to his work in NWA Mid America, Mr. Lance Russell also had a stint with WCW, and a much longer stint as a weatherman on Memphis television, enjoying success in both worlds. His voice struck a chord with many wrestling fans across eras and generations, and he has left a void that cannot be fulfilled.

Rest in peace, Mr. Lance Russell. We raise a toast to a career that few others have had.
