What’s the story?

On an edition of X-Pac’s X-Pac 12360 podcast, Konnan revealed that Lucha Underground once tried to lowball The Young Bucks.

Recalling the time he recommended The Young Bucks to Lucha Underground management, Konnan asserted that they offered them a measly $200 each, while the Bucks demanded $1,500 per performer. Konnan also gave his thoughts on the entire incident.

In case you didn’t know…

Lucha Underground has been in operation since 2014 and is one of the most beloved indie promotions today. However, LU production has lately derailed owing to the promotion facing monetary issues.

Konnan was one of the founders of Lucha Underground, and was indeed set to work as a writer for the organization, however, plans changed and he later merely served as an on-screen talent in LU.

The heart of the matter

Konnan narrated that in the early days of Lucha Underground, he alongside Dorian Roldan from AAA (Asistencia Asesoria y Administracion) and Chris Joseph who served as a writer for Lucha Underground; went to PWG (Pro Wrestling Guerilla) where Konnan recommended several talents to them such as Kevin Steen (Kevin Owens), The Young Bucks, Ricochet, Brian Cage and Willie Mack.

Furthermore, upon being told that The Young Bucks ought to change their wrestling gear, Konnan let them in on the fact that Matt & Nick Jackson are poking fun at the outdated gear by wearing it themselves. Konnan recalled—

“I convinced the Young Bucks to call Lucha Underground because I could get them a contract and I was going to put them in a trio with John Morrison cause they're all from LA. And bro, they offered them $200 each. They (The Young Bucks) were pissed, he wrote back, 'Yeah now for them, for us to go there, they're going to have to pay us $1,500 each, non negotiable.' And I was like, 'Yeah, exactly.' “

What’s next?

Konnan presently features as a manager on the independent professional wresting circuit.

Meanwhile, The Young Bucks are the current ROH 6-Man Tag Team Champions with Bullet Club stable-mate Adam Page. On the other hand, Lucha Underground will be returning for Season 4 very soon.

Author’s take

It’s safe to say that low-balling The Young Bucks was an error on part of Lucha Underground management.

Nevertheless, both Matt & Nick have achieved tremendous success in the sport, and could perhaps feature in LU Season 4 as a sign of goodwill between LU management and the Bucks. After all, in the world of pro-wrestling, anything is possible.
