Roman Reigns captured the WWE Universal Championship for the first time at SummerSlam 2018

WWE has presented many Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar encounters over the years.

After Brock Lesnar shockingly defeated Roman Reigns to retain the WWE Universal Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 34, many assumed Reigns would not challenge Lesnar again for the title.

However, Roman Reigns defeated Lashley on Monday Night RAW to become the number one contender for Lesnar's championship once again.

Before the match could begin, Braun Strowman made his way to ringside and announced his intention to cash in his Money in the Bank contract on the winner of the match and remained at ringside.

In the latter moments of the match, Roman Reigns attempted a spear. However, the spear was avoided by Lesnar, causing Reigns to accidentally hit a suicide dive onto Strowman at ringside.

Brock Lesnar followed this by attacking Braun Strowman with the Money in the Bank briefcase and a steel chair, incapacitating him and preventing a Money in the Bank cash-in.

Roman Reigns then capitalized on this by hitting Brock Lesnar with a spear to capture the Universal Championship. This marked the end of Lesnar's record-breaking 504-day WWE Universal Championship reign.
