WWE News: Rare video of Alexa Bliss and Scott Dawson's original Southern gimmick emerges

What's the story?

Alexa Bliss and Scott Dawson might not have much to do with each other on WWE television but that wasn't then original intention. An old promo from NXT shows one of WWE's first ideas for the two and it was much different from how we know them today.

In case you didn't know...

The WWE Performance Center is full of hopes and dreams. Aspiring WWE Superstars enter the Performance Center with one thing in mind: to be noticed.

When Alexa Bliss first jumped onto our television sets on NXT she portrayed a fairy character blowing pixie dust at the camera. Her finisher was called the Sparkle Splash and she was all smiles. It wasn't until much later that she would transform into a heel manager of Blake and Murphy and then break out on her own as the character we know her now.

Scott Dawson wasn't always paired with his Revival tag team partner Dash Wilder either. When he first came into WWE's performance center they used his awesome sideburns to his advantage and turned him into something very different from the Top Guy he would later become.

The heart of the matter

Scott Dawson and Alexa Bliss were paired together with a Southern gimmick where Bliss played a spoiled country girl and Dawson's character was just a good ole' boy redneck character.

As you can see form the promo had this gimmick been permitted to see the light of day it could have resulted in an eventual love story between the two. Dawson appeared smitten with Bliss, but Alexa wanted a few things first (one of them being a pot belly pig).

What's next?

Alexa Bliss is the Five Feet Of Fury now and Scott Dawson is a Top Guy. Although Dawson might be out of action due to injury he'll be back in full force eventually. The Revival will be back and hopefully, they'll be better than ever without any more setbacks.

Bliss is the current Raw Women's Champion and looks like she doesn't plan on slowing down at all. Both of these people are currently living their dreams as WWE Superstars and appear to be game for anything.

But barring some kind of amnesia angle it might be difficult to bring Bliss and Dawson back to this kind of pairing.

Author's take

This gimmick seems like a Jamie Noble and Nidia deal although the Southern couple angle was used many times before then. This also isn't the only gimmick that was cancelled for any number of reasons. If you'd like to check out even more cancelled WWE gimmicks, you can click here.

WWE definitely did right by Bliss and Dawson by having them move on to different gimmicks, that's for sure. But it's still awesome to be able to get a glimpse of what might have been.
