Maybe it wasn't as big as the time that The Undertaker's WrestleMania undefeated streak came to an end in The Superdome at WrestleMania 30, but Charlotte Flair ending Asuka's undefeated streak has to be in the same ballpark. In fact, it might even go down as one of the biggest WrestleMania shocks of all time.
With that being said and the eyebrow-raising nature of the moment that Asuka was forced to tap out to The Figure 8 in mind, one has to wonder what WWE was thinking when they decided to end one of their most coveted streaks in their history. Furthermore, they have to be wondering what the loss means for the future of Asuka.
Of course, her loss at the hands of Charlotte Flair is nothing to be ashamed off and should probably go down as a match of the year candidate, that doesn't mean that the loss doesn't sting a little. Fortunately for The WWE Universe and 'The Empress of Tomorrow', the move seemed to be for a very specific reason.
Let's be honest here. Asuka doesn't need the streak as much as some fans think she does and, it's probably better that WWE ended it when they did. Not only does it allow WWE to set the stage for her eventual surprise title win, it also sets the stage for Asuka to defend her streak at a later WrestleMania.
Think about it! WWE already is rumored to want to do Ronda Rousey versus Asuka at next year's WrestleMania, and what better way to give her a crowning moment, than to have her avenge her streak by defeating Rousey!
WWE could even throw in Charlotte Flair to shake things up a bit and make the storyline even bigger.
Another thing that makes this more likely, is the fact that WWE has also been rumored to want Asuka versus Rousey at WrestleMania 35, to be the main event match, which would go down as the first time that has ever happened.
It could also gain a lot of mainstream media appeal just like Rousey did at WrestleMania 34.
In the end, The WWE Universe might be angry that the company would end Asuka's streak like this, but this isn't even the first time WWE has had taken a huge loss at their first WrestleMania.
In fact, Sting, AJ Styles, Finn Balor Rusev and several others lost in their WrestleMania debuts.
Again, it doesn't matter! Asuka is one of the most captivating superstars on the entire roster and still, will be without the streak.
