Rey Mysterio is finally free

WWE and Rey Mysterio failed to come to terms on a new contract and it’s believed he is now a free agent. His profile was removed from the WWE.com roster page this week.

There have been ongoing issues between both parties for several years now. WWE saw Mysterio as injury prone but an important star for the Hispanic market, thus year after year they have tried to reduce his pay but keep him on board. Their relationship soured even further last year when his contract expired but the company used a little known clause to discount his time off for injuries. This meant he had several more months left to peform because of the time he missed.

The Lucha Libre legend has immediately been offered deals in Mexico with AAA and independents, and he’s also expected to join Lucha Underground in LA.

Former WCW partner Konnan and AAA have been pushing the #FreeRey campaign for a while now, and it seems WWE have finally set him free.
