Cody Rhodes faced off against Christopher Daniels once again last night

What’s the story?

During last night’s ROH: Survival of the Fittest tour (night two), current Ring of Honor World Champion Cody Rhodes defended his championship against the man from whom he won it in the first place, Christopher Daniels.

“The American Nightmare” promptly decided to put Daniels through a flaming table, which was the best spot/moment of the night.

In case you didn’t know…

WWE was not the only company who decided to put up a show in Houston, Texas, last night, as WWE’s rival promotion Ring of Honor also hosted a show in the same city, as part of the ROH: Survival of the Fittest tour for 2017.

The Survival of the Fittest tour featured many top stars this year, including popular TV actor Stephen Amell, who joined the Bullet Club on night one of the tour.

The Bullet Club also had to go through a hectic schedule during these two nights, during which The Elite (Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks) were also seen in action. Several other ROH stars such as Frankie Kazarian, Flip Gordon, and Marty Scurll were all part of the show.

The heart of the matter

Earlier this month, it was announced by ROH that Cody would defend his World Title in a Texas Death Match, during this year’s Survival of the Fittest tour.

The deathmatch between Cody and Daniels was brutal as expected and the two men tried to end each other’s careers by putting each through hell.

However, in the closing stages of the matches, the Ring of Honor crowd witnessed one of the most hellacious moments of the night when the ROH World Champion Cody decided to powerbomb his challenger Chris Daniels through a flaming table in order to get the three count and retain his World Championship.

What’s next?

Following the brutal match, Daniels would also post a picture of his burned back on his official Twitter. As for Rhodes, the Bullet Club member gets to live another day, despite Daniels giving his best in order to regain the ROH World Title.

The former WWE Intercontinental Champion also commented on his intense rivalry with Daniels by saying that their feud has been full of surprises and also confirmed that this rivalry has concluded last night.

Cody’s next challenger will be Dalton Castle as “The American Nightmare” will defend his World Title once again at this year’s Final Battle PPV, which is ROH’s last and biggest show of the year.

Author’s take

It is very shocking yet amazing to see Christopher Daniels take these sorts of risks at the age of 47. Despite being past his prime, Daniels remains an excellent worker and deserves all the respect in the world for putting his body on the line for the sake of his fans.
