What's the story?
During today's Final Battle pay-per-view, Ring of Honor announced that they are all set to crown their first ever Women's Champion in early 2018.
In case you didn't know...
The term Women or Honor is used to refer to the female talents who are currently signed with Ring of Honor. It was in June of 2002 when ROH held it's first women's match between Sumie Sakai and Simply Luscious. Through the years, ROH fans have also got the chance to witness female stars such Sara Del Rey, Mickie James, Amazing Kong performing for the promotion.
The popularity of women in ROH has eventually led to the re-branding of the Women of Honor brand in 2015. Women of Honor's sister promotions, Shimmer Women Athletes and Shine Wrestling, are also among two of the very best female promotions in the world today.
The heart of the matter
During today's Final Battle show, ROH made the huge announcement regarding their Women of Honor roster as it has been now confirmed that in 2018, ROH will finally crown their first ever women's champion.
The Women of Honor Championship belt was unveiled at today's Final Battle PPV, with the entire WOH roster present for the unveiling. It was then announced that in January of 2018 a tournament would be contested by ROH which will determine the first ever Women of Honor Champion.
What's next?
With the unveiling of the new championship belt, ROH fans can certainly hope to see more WOH talents on television, on a much more regular basis.
Women of Honor are also currently in a working relationship with the best female wrestling promotion on the planet, Japanese promotion, World Wonder Ring Stardom.
If ROH decides to focus more on their women's division then there might also be a possibility of witnessing the Stardom talent, such as the likes of Io Shirai, Mayu Iwatani, and even Toni Storm, make an appearance for Women of Honor.

Personally, I'm really happy with the fact that ROH has finally decided to focus on their women's division and introduce a women's title to the WOH roster. In my opinion, the first ever champion from the current WOH roster should be Deonna Purrazzo.
