At the 2019 Royal Rumble in Chase Field, Shane McMahon and The Miz won their very first match as a tag team, defeating The Bar - Sheamus and Cesaro, to win the SmackDown tag team titles.

This was a surprising result considering how strong Sheamus and Cesaro have been booked on SmackDown since their move to the blue brand last year, but makes sense in a few ways for the team of Shane McMahon and The Miz.

The match ended after Shane McMahon landed a superb Shooting Star Press on Cesaro and got the three-count to win his first tag team title in WWE.

What could this mean for the SmackDown tag team division as well as the future of the Shane McMahon-The Miz tag team?

Let's take a look at 4 reasons why Shane McMahon & The Miz won the SmackDown Tag Team titles at Royal Rumble:

#4 World Cup tag team tournament?

The tag team of Shane McMahon and The Miz came together following the WWE World Cup at the Crown Jewel PPV, where The Miz was replaced by Shane McMahon in the final of the tournament following an injury to Miz.

McMahon eventually won the match, and was crowned "the best in the world", a title which was later shared with The Miz.

With WWE set to return to Saudi Arabia this year too (although it hasn't been confirmed when the next event in the Middle East will take place in 2019), we could expect a similar World Cup-styles tournament.

Could there be a World Cup tag team tournament where Shane and The Miz would put their titles on the line? A World Cup-style tournament would do a world of good for the SmackDown tag team division, which has been flailing.

#3 Possible injury to Sheamus

Sheamus

It is well known that Sheamus, after years of wrestling, has put his body through too much which has resulted in various injuries. Reports last year suggested that Sheamus has a neck injury which has caused him to cut out a lot of his moves in the ring.

Could The Celtic Warrior be taking a break from the WWE to give his neck some rest and maybe rehabilitate to get fit and ready ahead of WrestleMania?

It is quite a possibility. With Shane McMahon and The Miz as the tag team champions, there are newer match-ups that can be used on SmackDown to generate more interest for the tag team division.

Sheamus and Cesaro have held together the tag team division on both RAW and SmackDown, consistently putting on great matches, and it's time they deserve so time off.

#2 Freshening up the SmackDown tag team division

The Usos and New Day

The SmackDown tag team division, like the RAW tag team division, has been rather stale, with the same match-ups and rivalries taking place over the last year or so. The tag team division has been overlooked with not many interesting storylines, and even the likes of The Revival rumoured to have asked for a release.

Shane and Miz's victory could be a great way to rebuild the division as there are quite a few rivalries that can happen on the blue brand.

With the likes of The Usos, New Day, and Bludgeon Brothers, any one of those tag teams could put on a great feud with The Miz and Shane McMahon. It's a fresh beginning for the division, one that could revitalise and give importance to the division that gave us some of the best matches.

#1 Heel turn and WrestleMania 35 singles match

This is a storyline that could eventually culminate at WrestleMania 35 with The Miz and Shane McMahon facing each other in a one-on-one match. Shane is a certainty at each and every WrestleMania, and WM35 later this year could see Shane in another singles match.

Shane and The Miz could go on a dream run, defeating all teams on SmackDown over the course of the next few weeks, but leading up to WrestleMania, a flurry of losses could cause the two to fallout.

Eventually, one of them turns heel, attacks the other and sets up a mouthwatering WrestleMania 35 match that will see the two pit each other, perhaps to see who really is the "best in the world".

The storyline could eventually go on till the Greatest Royal Rumble or Crown Jewel where Shane defends his World Cup title.
