In case you didn't know...

On the January 2nd edition of 205 Live, Drake Maverick put together three matches to determine who would challenge Buddy Murphy for the Cruiserweight Championship. Lio Rush faced off against Kalisto, while Akira Tozawa took on his longtime rival Drew Gulak.

Rush and Kalisto had an incredible contest and considering he'd only lost to Cedric Alexander since his debut on the Purple Brand, many felt that the Man of the Hour was a shoo-in. However, the former Cruiserweight Champion managed to upset Rush, putting him away with a Salida del Sol after Rush was distracted by the Lucha House Party.

In the main event, Akira Tozawa managed to overcome the devious Drew Gulak, locking him into yet another championship opportunity. Tozawa, another former Cruiserweight Champion, was just too much for Gulak, who couldn't put a stop to the brawling style of Tozawa.

With Cedric Alexander in the final match this week, it was a reasonable assumption that Murphy would be pitted against three former Cruiserweight Champions in order to prove himself.

The heart of the matter

At this week's 205 Live tapings, the Soul of 205 Live Cedric Alexander took on one of his most dangerous rivals in Hideo Itami. The deadly striker apparently was able to put away Alexander, as he has now been added to the Cruiserweight Championship match.

What's next?

Buddy Murphy's toughest test has yet to come. Though he defeated two of the biggest players on 205 Live in 2018 in Cedric Alexander and Mustafa Ali, a Fatal-4-Way featuring Itami, Kalisto, and Tozawa might be the end of the reign of the Juggernaut.

The Royal Rumble takes place on January 27th on the WWE Network at 7 PM ET.
