There were previously reports that WWE would maintain a three-hour show for the foreseeable future, and the earlier reports of the show being reduced to two hours were no longer applicable.

Every report seemed to indicate that USA Network was impressed by SmackDown and wanted to keep it at three hours going forward. Now, though, in the latest twist of this saga, it seems that it has changed.

WWE may be changing SmackDown to two hours going forward. As per reports by both Wrestling Observer Radio and PWInsider, it seems that things are changing regarding SmackDown.

Bryan Alvarez reported that initially, three-hour shows were supposed to end in May. However, later, it turned out that there was no end date to the three-hour shows. He said that this did not mean it would continue forever.

He revealed that he had found out that USA Network is advertising a show based on John Grisham's The Rainmaker, which will premiere on USA Network on August 15 at 10 PM.

"That means that's the end of three hour SmackDowns. Because this show is premiering at 10 'o' clock, on Fridays on USA." [13:25 onwards]

PWInsider also revealed that Metacritic was listing The Rainmaker to debut on August 15 at 10 PM EST and that this would indicate the end of the run of three-hour SmackDowns.
