Imagine being The WWE champion and not getting to compete at one of WWE's biggest shows of the entire year.
Imagine then that the reason you're not competing at the upcoming show is due to the fact that your opponent backed out at the last minute and you can start to see how Styles is going to be the odd man out in this situation.

Not only is this evident by the fact that WWE isn't trying to find another opponent for Styles at Crown Jewel, but also by the fact that the company isn't even addressing the matter.
It's almost as if they either don't care about The WWE title situation, or are just willing to screw a man out of payday due to circumstances beyond his control
Beyond that, the move isn't good for The WWE title or Smackdown Live moving forward and could be the beginning of the blue show becoming more and more irrelevant as time goes on.
Of course, the same could probably be said for The Universal title on Raw, but at least WWE has gone through the trouble to redo the build for the match for the red belt.
In the end, it seems like WWE doesn't care about The WWE title right now at all. Furthermore, they don't care about Styles missing a payday despite him agreeing to go overseas for the controversial show. If nothing else, that means that AJ Styles has WWE's back, but the reverse is probably not true.
