SK Exclusive: Real reason why Vince McMahon wants Kevin Owens to wear a suit

Kevin Owens is the United States champion, but is he in trouble with the WWE’s top boss?

What’s the story?

According to a WWE source, Vince McMahon isn’t happy with the build and fitness of United States Champion, Kevin Owens.

The source said that McMahon is “so fed up” with Owens being overweight and not lifting weights the way he’d like that he has requested the Canadian superstar to work in a suit. The New Face of America has been wearing a suit recently, but this has only been the case for promos and guest announcing segments.

Now, Vince reportedly wants him to “work the matches in a suit” as well.

The background

Owens certainly does not have a prototypical WWE body, but that hasn’t stopped him from being successful. Ever since he joined the company in 2014, the Prize Fighter has captured several championships and created numerous memorable moments.

Vince McMahon has been known to favour wrestlers with a more chiselled physique, but those standards have been relaxed in recent years. In the past few months, both Owens and Bray Wyatt have held major titles in the WWE, and neither man is built like Hulk Hogan or The Ultimate Warrior.

The heart of the matter

In addition to the change in attire, Vince is also supposedly behind the recent trim of Owens’ beard. If both of these changes do stem from the top boss’ displeasure, Owens would be best served to listen

However, if KO can be successful with a more “everyman” appearance, he might connect better with the fans. Even though he is a heel, it always helps when the fans are interested in your top champions and workers.

What’s next?

The fans are left to read the “tea leaves,” so to speak, to see if this trend of wearing a suit continues. Owens wore one before WrestleMania when he started to work more openly alongside Triple H and Samoa Joe, but he still donned his traditional sleeveless T-shirt and athletic shorts for matches.

If he begins to wear something different for in-ring action or continues to keep his beard trimmed close, it could be a sign that there is heat backstage.

Author’s take

If Vince has actually requested changes to Owens’ attire because he doesn’t like the superstar’s physique, that is ridiculously petty. Despite all his accomplishments in the wrestling business, he has to realise that most fans aren’t concerned with such things.

The possibility also remains that this was merely a brief outburst from the chairman and that KO won’t see any long-term effects. The signs in the booking point to this being true as KO is a champion with a planned feud against AJ Styles, one of the company’s top workers. Hopefully, any concerns about Vince’s feelings toward KO are overblown, and this doesn’t become a major issue.
