The Mae Young Classic is an ongoing special event, promoted by the WWE and airing on the WWE Network. The 32 competitor tournament was exclusively for women from both NXT and the independent circuit.

The winner of tonight's tournament will be former UFC superstar, Shayna Baszler. Our sources all say that Baszler has been earmarked as the winner ever since the WWE secured her for the tournament, with the WWE wanting Ronda Rousey and the other horsemen present to celebrate the victory with Baszler, in order to gain an ESPN Sports Centre moment for the company. Baszler always seemed like the obvious choice, despite not being the most talented performer. However, aside from providing the company their ESPN moment, she does bring a solid amount of legitimacy to the table, being the only former MMA star competing in the tournament. Therefore, it is really is hard to put up a compelling argument against Baszler being chosen as the winner .
