According to our source, the WWE higher ups are very high on Carmella and she will receive a Woman's Title program after Backlash with Naomi. We broke the story on our podcast, “The Dirty Sheets,” via our “DS Breaking News” Show, which you can listen to, below.
Carmella was set to win the SmackDown's Women's Title at WrestleMania 33 and hold the championship for 2 days before dropping it to Naomi, effectively beginning a program with her. However, plans were changed to Naomi winning once the match was moved to the main show.
Our source says that WWE officials were really impressed by how well she took the news regarding the change and how she generally conducts herself, including embracing the union with James Ellsworth and making it work on TV. Triple H is said to be huge a supporter of Carmella and feels like she has a lot potential.
Carmella herself revealed on Lillian Garcia’s podcast that Triple H was the one who decided to split her from Enzo and Cass as he saw her as a viable singles competitor:
"When Hunter told me he said the reason why you're not going with them is because you have the ability to make it on your own, you're not just a hype girl for Cass and Enzo. You're not, I see more in you, you have more potential and you're gonna be fine on your own."
The Princess of Staten Island has developed into a fine heel owing to her programs with Nikki Bella and now as part of the Welcoming Committee. While her in-ring work surely needs some polishing, working programs with Naomi and Charlotte will help in fine-tuning her skills inside the squared circle.
