SK's Take on speculation that Rusev and Aiden English might split up

On this week's episode of SmackDown Live, Lana made a return to television after spending a long time off-screen. During a backstage promo by Rusev and Aiden English, she approached them and asked to speak to Rusev privately.

Once Aiden left, she spoke to her husband, telling him that she thought Rusev Day was bigger than ever, and he had even had the honour of facing the Undertaker in a Casket Match at the Greatest Royal Rumble. However, she had more on her mind and told Rusev that there was something which was holding him back.

When Rusev asked her what she meant, and what could be holding him back, Aiden returned to the camera to collect his jacket.

This segment has given rise to rampant speculation among the Internet Wrestling Community, that WWE is planning to split up the duo of Aiden and Rusev, and pair the Bulgarian with Lana once again. Ringside News speculated that the segment with Lana meant that Rusev's days with Aiden are numbered.

When Rusev first appeared on the WWE scene, he was paired with Lana who acted as his manager and spokesperson. The two were split up during the brand split, and Rusev became a solo star instead while Lana tried her hand at an in-ring wrestling career. She was not very successful and despite some appearances, was a non-entity on the SmackDown Live Women's division.

Lana being paired with Rusev makes sense, as the two are extremely compatible and share real-life chemistry due to their marriage.

Aiden and Rusev teaming up together worked better than anyone could have expected, and the Bulgarian Brute became one of the fan favourites despite portraying a heelish character. They even made 'Rusev Day' a phenomenon, with fans buying 'Rusev Day' merchandise due to the popularity of the gimmick. While Lana and Rusev are sure to have excellent chemistry, it does not make sense for WWE to simply break up Aiden and Rusev's partnership.

Though Lana's newly repackaged appearance, wearing her husband's merchandise and the lack of an accent pointed to the fact that the two will likely pair up, it is more likely that this will be a long drawn out storyline, where Lana paints Aiden in an unfavourable light for Rusev's benefit.

This might be the best course of action for WWE to follow in the long run as then this may even culminate in a feud between the two, and Aiden would not just disappear into the background with Lana's re-emergence.
