Mixed Match Challenge could be the start of something big

WWE is setting into a brand new frontier but it's nothing new for Vince McMahon and company. They pioneered the pay-per-view industry in many ways with WrestleMania and now the new age of social media has brought the possibility to broadcast their programming on a brand new platform.

Mixed Match Challenge might sound like a really fun idea for twelve weeks of tag team tournament action, but the truth is it could result in so much more in the grand scheme of things. The idea has been out there for WWE to utilize the new offerings of social media on a weekly basis but television contracts have always kept them from going all in on this idea.

WWE Network's incarnation proved WWE could maintain a strong streaming service and make it work but there's always the idea that they wanted their television shows in a different location. This is where Facebook Watch comes into play and why things could be so perfect.

Pro Wrestling Sheet reported WWE is pulling out all the stops in an attempt to not only impress Facebook top brass but also attract any other cutting-edge companies with streaming capabilities.

The fact is with WWE's NBC/Universal contract running out in 2019, WWE very well may be looking to take a great leap into a new venture on social media. WWE is reportedly trying to test the waters and see what kind of long-term revenue they might be able to obtain through this kind of streaming endeavour.

Facebook is not a small company and they're paying for distribution rights to get WWE Mixed Match Challenge on their service. A lot of people will be using Facebook Watch for the first time on January 16th to check out this new cross-brand WWE program, therefore, both sides are bound to benefit.

If WWE finds success in this new type of programming, who knows if fans will be logging into Facebook instead tuning in on cable to watch Raw and SmackDown Live every week?
