#2 Tomohiro Ishii (vs. White - G1 Climax 30 Day 17; vs. Cobb - G1 Climax 30 Day 13; vs. Ospreay - G1 Climax 30 Day 3)

Year after year, the MVP of the G1 seems to always be Tomohiro Ishii. His hard hitting and physically intense battles usually are the most standout encounter of every tournament. From his war with Shibata in 2013 to his bloody encounter with Omega in 2018, Ishii always brings the goods during G1 season. In the G1 Climax 30, Ishii once again delivered instant classics and bangers on an almost nightly basis.

From his A Block opener with Suzuki in the G1 Climax 30, Ishii set the pace for another stellar tournament. His contest with Will Ospreay on Day 3 showed his range, being able to work the Aerial Assassin's type of match. His phenomenal barnburner with Jeff Cobb gave us the best match of his opponent's time in NJPW. The two men delivered a stiff, grueling affair that showed what a hoss fight is all about.

On the G1 Climax 30 Day 17, Ishii and Switchblade Jay White gave us an amazing ending to the A Block competition. The Stone Pitbull's babyface performance in this encounter showed off his fiery comebacks and top-notch selling in epic fashion. The dramatic conclusion with Ishii overcoming White and Gedo got such a stirring reaction from the fans in Ryogoku.

Ishii's selling always delivers visceral reaction from the crowd. His unique ability to no-sell and then finally sell his opponent's offense is similar to a video game boss. That skill is why he is considered the best seller in NJPW and arguably the entire industry. The only reason why Ishii doesn't take the top spot is a performer who also gave Ishii another thrilling encounter.
