Rumors are swirling that Rusev is currently in contract negotiations with WWE. That would make sense in conjunction with this storyline. Is WWE doing what they've long been accused of and trying to humiliate Rusev in case he decides to bow out of the company?
The final scene of the night was Rusev sent helplessly to the canvas. Before that, Lana accused him of being a sex addict who cheated on her and wanted to destroy her career.
There's a certain Attitude Era flavor to this, but cuckoldry storylines can never be good for the humiliated husband.
If WWE intends to keep Rusev under contract, the company certainly has an odd way of showing it. And it isn't like the humiliation effort would pay off in the long run, were he to go to AEW in their worst nightmare, I'm sure Tony Khan and crew would reinvent him in a flash.
