WWE News: Tommaso Ciampa reflects on the one-year breakup anniversary of DIY
On this day one year ago, one of WWE's most talented tag teams called it a day!
What’s the story?
On the eve of the one-year break-up anniversary of #DIY, WWE NXT Superstar Tommaso Ciampa took it to the social media in order to reflect on the split-up between himself and his former tag team partner, now turned bitter rival, Johnny Gargano.
In case you didn’t know…
During the main event of last year’s NXT TakeOver: Chicago show at the Allstate Arena, The Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar) successfully defended their NXT Tag Team Championships in a brutal ladder match against the team of Gargano and Ciampa—DIY.
However, following Akam and Rezar’s win, the WWE Universe finally witnessed the unthinkable when ‘The Psycho Killer’ Ciampa decided to turn heel by attacking his tag partner Gargano after the match and performed two running knee smashes on the latter to cement his place as the newest heel superstar of the NXT roster.
Additionally, Ciampa then followed it up with an Air Raid Crash through two tables near the announce table on Gargano.
The heart of the matter
In a recent tweet, former NXT Tag Team Champion Ciampa reflected on his heel turn from one year ago at Rosemont, Illinois by stating on the social media that one-year ago at TakeOver: Chicago the ‘Blackheart’ wrestled a ladder match with a torn ACL, two torn labrum, and torn ligaments in his ankle and despite putting his body on the line, the fans in attendance instead decided to cheer for Ciampa’s tag partner Gargano on the night.
Below is Ciampa’s recent tweet:
As per reports, it has been noted that Gargano and Ciampa are likely to do battle once again at the upcoming NXT TakeOver: Chicago II event at the very same arena where the disaster occurred for DIY last year.
The feud between Gargano and Ciampa has been absolutely amazing so far and the NXT management has almost built this feud with sheer perfection. The forthcoming second match between the two men promises to be a solid affair.
