What’s the story?
According to 411mania, NJPW star Tomoaki Honma is finally back on his feet after he suffered a serious spinal injury that left him temporarily paralysed for almost a month. Honma successfully underwent surgery earlier this month and is currently in rehabilitation.

Honma suffered the injury at the New Japan Road show that took place at the Okinawa Prefectural Budokan.
In case you did not know...
NJPW star Katsuyori Shibata also suffered a fate similar to Honma’s. During a recent IWGP championship match, Shibata suffered a subdural hematoma after he landed his signature headbutt on his opponent Kazuchika Okada.
Shibata has been under treatment and is required to undergo another surgery in May.
The heart of the matter
As for Honma, he endured the bruise to his cervical vertebrae back in March during a multi-man tag team match, after receiving a middle-rope DDT from Jado. Honma's foot got caught in the rope, thus changing the course of his landing. After the impact, Honma was unable to speak or move his limbs.
Honma is currently undergoing physical therapy and hopes to return to the ring sometime later this year. Fellow wrestler Ryusuke Taguchi also visited Tomoaki Honma and posted a photograph of the duo together on Twitter.
What’s next?
New Japan Pro Wrestling is next scheduled to run a G1 Special event at the Long Beach Arena at the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center on July 1st and July 2. The event will be NJPW’s first step towards greater expansion in the United States.

The news of Honma’s recovery comes as a relief to us. Neck and other vertebrae injuries are not something to be taken lightly and Honma shouldn’t push himself too hard, and instead, take sufficient time before returning to the ring.
