Some moments on the WWE made everyone cry

WWE is the most followed wrestling promotion in history. It's the name that made wrestling famous. As for now, we all know that it's scripted, hence it comes up with some of the most astounding storylines possible. Sometimes, the storylines become so much interesting that the fans get tears in their eyes.

WWE has also produced some all-time greats of wrestling, and many of those legends have retired in such a way, that everyone in the arena had to cry in absolute sorrow.

#1 The Streak is over

No one thought that this would ever happen
No one thought that this would ever happen

When we think of WWE, it's not possible that The Undertaker doesn't come to our mind. He might also be considered as the biggest legend WWE has ever produced.

Undertaker has been around for almost 3 decades. He is the superstar with the most wins at The Grandest Stage Of Them All, WrestleMania. It was the stage of WrestleMania 30, where Brock Lesnar challenged The Undertaker. By that time, Undertaker had already won 21 straight matches at WrestleMania, so no one expected him to lose. However, this time wasn't the same. The Beast Incarnate, Brock Lesnar somehow picked up the win and put all the wrestling fans in regret.

All the fans were sure that The Undertaker would pick up the win just like the last 21 WrestleManias, but the outcome of the match wasn't what anyone had expected. After the concluding bell rang, the whole arena was silent, and no one could believe what just happened in front of their eyes. All the fans were saddened while Brock Lesnar's music played. Everyone including The Undertaker himself was in complete sorrow.

#2 Daniel Bryan finally becomes the WWE World Heavyweight Champion

The perfect 'Underdog' story ended
The perfect 'Underdog' story ended in an awesome fashion

On the same night where we saw the Streak end, WWE made plans to make the fans happy at the end of the night. Daniel Bryan can be accepted as the best example of an underdog when it comes to wrestling. This storyline was the root of Daniel Bryan's success.

Daniel Bryan had been battling the authority (Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, Randy Orton and Batista) for nine months just to reclaim his Championship. Daniel Bryan managed to pin John Cena to win the gold, but after the match, he was stabbed in the back by Triple H. Randy Orton cashed in his money in the bank contract against Daniel, to claim the WWE World Heavyweight championship.

After a lot of struggle, Daniel Bryan somehow managed to defeat Triple H, Randy Orton and Batista on the same night to become the Champion. All the fans cheered on as Daniel proved that he isn't a B+ athlete. He surely deserved to be the top guy.

#3 Eddie Guerrero is no more

All the wrestlers cry in absolute sorrow
All the wrestlers cried in absolute sorrow

Eddie Guerrero is considered the greatest performer to ever step into the WWE. He devoted his entire life to the wrestling industry. All the fans expected Eddie Guerrero to wrestle at least for 10 more years, but something unpredictable happened.

He was praised for his technical abilities, infectious charisma, and brutal honesty when it came to showcasing his real-life personal struggles. Guerrero abused steroids, alcohol, and prescription painkillers but instead of trying to hide these problems he gave permission to incorporate some of them into his storylines. He wrestled with his demons the same way he wrestled his opponents – in front of an audience.

On November 13th, 2005, Eddie’s nephew and fellow wrestler Chavo Guerrero discovered his unconscious body in a hotel room in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After the paramedics were called, Eddie was declared dead. The RAW following this nightmare was full of sorrow and panic. The fans as well as wrestlers were in tears.

#4 Chris Benoit commits suicide

This legend will always remain in his fans' heart
This legend will always remain in his fans' heart

When we remember Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit automatically enters our mind. Chris and Eddie were best friends in real life. It is believed that Eddie's death had sent Benoit into depression. He was a great in-ring competitor and a fan favorite superstar.

Chris Benoit hanged himself from his lat pulldown machine, leading to his death on 22nd June, 2007. It is also believed that Chris murdered his family before committing suicide himself. Due to this event, WWE scrambled to distance themselves from Benoit’s misdeeds in the immediate aftermath and into today.

After screwing up royally with a tribute to Benoit in place of regular Raw festivities on June 25, 2007, Vince McMahon infamously opened the following night’s episode of ECW by saying that Benoit’s name would never be mentioned again on WWE programming. And they’ve largely stayed true to that.

#5 Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth Reunion: WrestleMania 7

The happiest reunion in the history of wrestling
The happiest reunion in the history of wrestling

In the late 80s and early 90s, one power couple ruled the world of professional wrestling. Macho Man Randy Savage, who every guy wanted to be, and Miss Elizabeth, who every guy wanted to be with.

At WrestleMania 7, Macho Man was up against the Ultimate Warrior with his career on the line, and Miss Elizabeth was spotted in the crowd. With all that went through between the couple, she was still there to support Savage.

After he lost, Sensational Sherri berated him and started assaulting him until Elizabeth jumped the barricade. The rest…is history.

#6 'I'm sorry, I love you'

Ric Flair takes the last move of his wrestling career

When we talk about emotional retirements, this one is arguably the most emotional one. Two legends, namely Ric Flair and Shawn Michaels battled each other for their careers at WrestleMania 24.

There was 61 years of experience, 64 titles, 19 World Championships, three Royal Rumble wins, 20 matches of the year, including their own at WrestleMania, seven feuds of the year, and both Triple Crown winners in that ring and in the moment history alone was made. As I watched the match, a tear rolled down my cheek as Shawn got up to give Flair the third and last Sweet Chin Music. As the career of the greatest wrestler was coming to an end, I felt the emotion of so many others watching this as Flair would bow out the right way.

When Shawn looked up and said to Flair "I'm sorry, I love you," that moment and those words meant so much to so many watching because those words were real.

I think it was something that wasn't scripted to say and that was what made it so much sadder when it happened. The match was one of the greatest matches that the world has ever seen and one that will live in our hearts until the day we die.

#7 Lilian Garcia sings the National Anthem post 9/11 attacks

En
This was absolutely heartwarming.

September 11th, 2001 is a day that changed the world, and not just the United States, forever.

When Vince McMahon made the decision to go ahead with an episode of SmackDown two days after the terrorist attacks in New York City, the general public was cautious. It was the first public gathering of people of its size since the attacks, and at that point, America didn't know if it was still under attack or not and were wondering if the WWE was basically turning the SmackDown taping into a giant target.

In typical Vince McMahon fashion, though, he was bold and defiant in the eyes of adversity, and he went ahead with the show to give the fans something to distract them from what had been happening.

You knew it would be an atypical show, full of emotion, but when Lilian Garcia began to belt out the Star Spangled Banner, everything reached another level. This would be remembered for ages.

#8 WrestleMania 20: Benoit becomes the World Heavyweight Champion

Benoit finally achieves the gold
Benoit finally achieves the gold

Chris Benoit had a road like no other, as he had to enter the Royal Rumble at No. 1 and beat 29 other wrestlers to be the No. 1 contender for the World title. He would go on to face two of the greatest wrestlers of the past two decades to become champion as he made Triple H tap out.

As he celebrated after the match, he turned around and saw his best friend (and WWE Champion) Eddie Guerrero standing there with tears in his eyes, everyone lost it. As they embraced, they knew that the years of struggling and dealing with backstage politics had only made them stronger. They were both on top of the wrestling world, and they were there together.

It didn't appear that Benoit knew Guerrero would be there, as you could see how turning and seeing him made him pretty much stop in his tracks. That doesn't matter, though. It shows that even pro wrestlers can get caught up in the moment and lose themselves to emotions.

Eddie was so happy for his friend that he couldn't just celebrate backstage and wait to see him. He had to go to the ring right away and be there with him. Moments like these make the fans feel that these two legends went away too early.

#9 Shawn Michaels' career is over

Shawn Michaels takes a Tombstone for a 1, 2, 3.
Shawn Michaels takes a Tombstone, brutal enough to end his career

Shawn Michaels is arguably the greatest icon and in-ring performer in WWE's history. He has wrestled for almost 3 straight decades and made many memories for the fans. At WrestleMania 26, such a legend was forced to retire.

Everyone who has ever dreamt of becoming a WWE superstar has always thought of defeating The Undertaker at WrestleMania. Shawn Michaels tried his best at WrestleMania 25 and gave a five-star match against The Undertaker, but he couldn't put The Deadman down. He thought that he had the caliber, and he could do it.

Shawn challenged The Undertaker once again at WrestleMania 26, but this time, his career was on the line. Shawn Michaels had everything to lose. After an incredible battle, Shawn couldn't kick out of the Tombstone and lost the match.

Shawn ended Ric Flair's career at WrestleMania 24, so a similar thing happened to him 2 years later. All the fans were literally crying, to see the ending of such a legend's career. We can bet on it, that Shawn Michaels still feels regret of putting his career on the line at WrestleMania 26.

#10 Owen Hart's accidental death

No one could believe that it was true
No one could believe that it was true

It's not like pro wrestlers had never died before Owen Hart passed in 1999, but none had ever died so publicly (even though the pay-per-view audience never saw his accident take place). Nobody really knew how to respond when Jim Ross made the somber announcement, live, that Owen Hart had passed away. That's why so many people thought it was some weird storyline that the WWF had put together. He couldn't have actually died, could he?

Ross, stunned, said over and over again that what had happened was "not part of the storyline" and not "a wrestling angle"; trying to communicate to the world-wide PPV audience what had just happened: Owen Hart, while attempting a ring entrance in his "Blue Blazer" character descending on a wire from the ceiling, had fallen approximately 50 feet to the ring, hitting his head on a turnbuckle, breaking his neck.

Hart was given CPR in the ring in front of the live audience at Kemper Arena and then taken to Truman Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Shortly afterward, Jim Ross made the announcement of Hart's death to the PPV audience. It was a pure moment of sorrow for each and every person in the arena.
