Top 10 overrated performers in WWE: Number 10

We have decided to start something very controversial. Wrestling fans always have their favourites, whom they “mark out” for. They also have their own set of people whom they dislike, because they either think they don’t deserve to be where they are, or because they feel they aren’t talented enough to take someone else’s spot.

Today, we are going to start our own list of some of the most over rated superstars/performers who ever wrestled for the WWF/E. Although this is a list that we have come up with, it isn’t meant to vilify the accomplishments of superstars, as being a part of the wrestling industry is demanding, and one has to put his body and career on the line every night he/she performs.

Today, we look at our number 10 pick. He isn’t new to the WWE Universe, as he is a former WWF Intercontinental champion, holding the title on six different occasions. He is also a former WWF European champion, and won the WCW World Heavyweight championship on four occasions. He was also the face of TNA wrestling for many years since its inception, and held the NWA – TNA world title on six different occasions. One would imagine that with those kind of credentials, he has to be a charismatic, talented individual.

Sadly, not only was he short on charisma, but there are rumours that the only reason he won the WCW World Heavyweight championship was because he was best friends with the lead booker. Also, he started TNA wrestling along with his father, and there are people who cite that as the only possible explanation for him winning the prestigious NWA title on six different occasions. By now, you might have guessed his name. He is none other than “The Chosen One”, Jeff Jarrett.

Being a third generation grappler, and the son of legendary promoter Jerry Jarrett, Jeff found the easy way to make it into the wrestling business. He won the USWA Southern Heavyweight championship on 10 different occasions! Jarrett was signed by the WWF, and was given the gimmick of a country singer. Jarrett won the WWF Intercontinental championship thrice during his first run, and left for WCW due to contract disputes. In WCW, Jarrett won the WCW United States Heavyweight championship, but dropped it to Mongo McMichael and left WCW for the WWF.

During his second run, Jarrett won the WWF Intercontinental championship three more times, as well as the European title. He also won the WWF Tag team titles along with Owen Hart, and Jarrett once again left WWF for WCW, but this time, according to the rumours, Jarrett and Russo made sure Jarrett’s contract would run out before he dropped the Intercontinental title, and apparently Jarrett extorted 300,000$ from Vince McMahon! In WCW, Jeff won the WCW World Heavyweight championship four times, thanks to his friend Vince Russo. When WWF bought WCW, Vince McMahon fired Jeff on-screen.

Jeff later started a company along with his father, known as Total Non – Stop Action Wrestling (TNA). Jeff brought his friends back, including Vince Russo to TNA, and booked himself to be the main player of the company. Jeff won the NWA – TNA world title on six different occasions, and I can still remember being reduced to tears due to the boredom Jarrett brought to the company. Even though the likes of Jeff Hardy were around, Jeff put himself over, and held on to the NWA World title. Jeff then took a hiatus from wrestling, and later Dixie Carter and Panda Energy bought all the shares of TNA, making Dixie the owner and president of TNA.

This meant that Jeff wasn’t anything but a wrestler for the company. Since then, Jeff made few sporadic appearances, but has taken backstage responsibility for TNA expanding in the global market. Jeff wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. Although he wasn’t the most untalented performer in the world, Jarrett utilized his connections to make it big in the industry. I, for the life of me, cannot remember one good match involving Jeff Jarrett. All of the above places him at number 10 in our list of the top 10 over rated wrestlers in WWE history.
