Hell in a Cell, just as the name suggests really is "Hell in a Cell". Put on the map of WWE for the first time in 1997 Bad Blood, Hell in a Cell has been a feature of WWE whenever a rivalry has reached the tipping point and things need to be taken to the next level.

Here is the countdown of the top 5 "Hell in a Cell" matches to have featured in WWE ever since its inception.

#5 Brock Lesnar Vs Undertaker, Hell in a Cell, 2015

Although debatable whether the first Hell in a Cell match between the two was better, this really was the changing of the guard and the beginning of the end for The Undertaker
Although debatable whether the first Hell in a Cell match between the two was better, this really was the changing of the guard and the beginning of the end for The Undertaker

The Beast Reincarnate gimmick of Brock Lesnar started taking shape during this time only. The build-up to this match was amazing because of the history between the wrestlers before this match.

Lesnar had beaten and ended the Undefeated streak of the Undertaker at Wrestlemania amidst huge shock for everyone. And even after that, it did seem like there was no stopping the man.

Both of them met again in a rematch and the Undertaker was able to put in the triangle choke. Instead of tapping out Brock preferred to pass out which made this match the decider between the two.

One thing that became evident was how much Brock was able to Overpower the Undertaker during the match and the Undertaker could never get him down and subdue him.

In the end, it did seem like a final changing of the guard when Brock was able to lift the Undertaker again for an F-5 and pin him one last time to stamp his authority on the WWE roster.

#4 Triple H Vs The Undertaker, Wrestlemania 28

This really was the end of an era
This really was the end of an era

Triple H Vs The Undertaker with Shawn Michaels as the Guest Referee. It doesn't get bigger than this and it never has.

This was the fourth edition of the Undertaker putting it all on the line with the top of the line matches in 4 consecutive Wrestlemanias. The first two matches against Shawn Michaels (the second edition of that match put an end to the Heartbreak Kid's career) and the third against Triple H where the Undertaker had to be carried out of the ring.

The buildup was great with Undertaker wanting redemption and then Shawn Michael getting involved as the guest referee. The match was a spectacle with the Undertaker finally putting one over on Triple H with a Tombstone.

It was a symbolic ending with the Three pioneers of the generation standing together shoulder to shoulder after the match was finished.

#3 Undertaker Vs Shawn Michaels, Bad Blood 1997

The very first installment of the demonic structure lived up to the hype and left everyone spellbound
The very first installment of the demonic structure lived up to the hype and left everyone spellbound

It all starts at one point and it was 1997 Bad Blood where it all began. During the match, both the Undertaker and Shawn Michaels put themselves through hell putting the structure to full effect and put together a spectacle befitting the very first edition for this kind of match.

The match is as much remembered for the action in the ring and how the match really unfolded as it is for how it ended.

This match was the Debut of a Certain 7ft 320 Pound Monster who was as big if not bigger and had as much mystique if not more than the Undertaker.

This match was the introduction of Kane to the WWE universe and it left everyone shocked to see someone come in the ring and manhandle the Undertaker the way he did. He smashed open the cage door, walked into the ring, delivered a tombstone to the undertaker (that allowed Michaels to pick up the win) and left.

This match also marked the debut of the Big Red Monster Kane

#2 Undertaker Vs Mankind, King of the Ring 1998

For a moment even the Undertaker he had killed Mick Foley
For a moment even the Undertaker he had killed Mick Foley

The match that made Mick Foley a legend. It is even said that the first time Mick Foley scaled that cage was on that very evening because he was scared of heights.

A match where Mick was first thrown off the 16ft cage and on to the announcer's desk. Which left him unconscious and resulted in being taken out on a stretcher.

Then he gets back up again, scales the cell yet again and this time gets choke-slammed through the cage which sprung the medics again into the action.

Again Mick gets up, fights the Undertaker and this time gets slammed onto the thumbtacks and then is finally put out of his misery.

After the match, Mick remembers Vince McMahon Walking up to him and saying, "I really appreciate and thank you for what you did but something like this will never happen again."

#1 Cactus Jack Vs Triple H, No Way Out 2000

The match was the exclamation mark on the long-running feud between Triple H and Mick Foley
The match was the exclamation mark on the long-running feud between Triple H and Mick Foley

Another Hell in a Cell, another Mick Foley special. Both Foley and Triple H had been embroiled in a feud that had run for almost a year as both had gone back and forth against each other multiple times.

The match had the stipulation of Foley's career on the line as he went up against Triple H who was cementing his place as the perennial Main event guy in the WWE at that time.

What trumps this much over the others is the brutality suffered by both the wrestlers throughout the match.

Triple H had a bloodied face and was hit by a 2 by 4 on flames, Foley himself suffered a lot and it all came to an end when Triple H reversed a Foley Piledriver that meant Foley went through the came and into the ring.

This was the match that truly put Triple H on the top of the mountain and cemented Foley's place in the Hall of Fame.
