The IWGP IS recognised by wrestling purists, as one of the most respected and revered titles on the planet. Names like Brock Lesnar, Vader, Antonio Inoki, AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura and many more legendary wrestlers, have held this coveted title.

Okada won the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship by defeating the then champion, Tetsuya Naito, at Dominion 6.19 in Osaka, on June 19, 2016. This is his fourth reign with the title, with a combined reign of over 930 days as champion.
