This year's NXT TakeOver: WarGames emanated from the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois and the event started with the first-ever women's WarGames match in WWE history. Team Ripley consisting of Rhea Ripley herself, Tegan Nox, Candice LeRae, and Mia Yim were slated to face off against NXT Women's Champion Shayna Baszler's team which consisted of Baszler herself, NXT UK Women's Champion Kay Lee Ray, Bianca Belair, and Io Shirai.During the pre-show, Mia Yim was taken out by an unknown assailant and Ripley chose Dakota Kai as Yim's replacement. However, during the match when Ripley and Candice LeRae were waiting for Kai to come into the ring she shocked the entire WWE Universe by attacking Tegan Nox and turning her back on the team.Ripley and LeRae had a big obstacle to climb in a 2-on-4 situation but they managed to pull through and Ripley pinned The Queen of Spades to secure the victory for her team. The women's WarGames match had some incredible spots such as Ripley delivering a Tower of Doom to members of Baszler's team which also included LeRae and Io Shirai delivering a moonsault from the top of the cage.The men's WarGames match saw The Undisputed Era go to war against Team Ciampa that comprised of Tommaso Ciampa himself, Keith Lee, Dominik Dijakovic and Kevin Owens as the mystery partner. The match was incredible and brutal from start to finish. In the end, Ciampa positioned Adam Cole on his back while he stood at the top of the cage and dropped down to put Cole through a table. He covered Cole for the pin and won the match.NXT's TakeOvers have been consitently putting up brilliant matches for the past few years and tonight was no exception.
