What does a WWE House of Horrors match mean?

What horrors will we see at Payback?

The WWE Superstar Shakeup has drastically changed the landscape of both Monday Night Raw as well as SmackDown LIVE and tomorrow's episode of SmackDown will shed further light as to where exactly people will finally end up. Regardless of what happens tomorrow, though, the big news from Raw is that Bray Wyatt is now officially a member of Team Red.

Further news has confirmed that Bray will be facing Randy Orton for the WWE Championship on a Raw-exclusive pay per view – Payback – in the match that was agreed upon on last week's episode of SmackDown – The House of Horrors match.

This naturally begs the question, what exactly is this match? Is it some sort of nonsense gimmick match such as the Hog Pen match? Or is it some sort of variation on an existing match, such as the Asylum match between Dean Ambrose and Chris Jericho?

The history

As of now, though, there is no concrete information regarding this House of Horrors. This could very well, though, be tied into the strange twist the Wyatt-Orton saga took on the night The Viper betrayed The Eater of Worlds.

If you're late to this party, then let me lay it out for you. Orton burned down a portion of the Wyatt Family compound which housed the remains of Sister Abigail, completing his betrayal of the leader of the Wyatt Family. The very next week saw Bray bathe himself in the ashes of Sister Abigail which apparently gave him supernatural powers.

What are these supernatural powers, you ask? Well, he put Luke Harper in some kind of trance during their match. A more in your face example was at WrestleMania 33 where Wyatt projected insects and maggots onto the surface of the ring. Despite all this, he lost his WWE Title to Randy that night.

The reason for all this backstory is that it gives us a chance to speculate as to what exactly could be behind this House of Horrors match.

The House of Horrors

Bray has mentioned that this match will push Orton to his physical and mental limits. By this logic, we could see something very similar to The Final Deletion. A strange sort of encounter in the Wyatt Family compound instead of an actual ring.

If the WWE wants to keep it inside the ring, we could see them build upon the psychological angle they introduced at WrestleMania 33 and have it play a much larger role this time around.

Another option could be something underwhelming such as the aforementioned Asylum match. While we certainly hope it isn't this, you can never be sure if the WWE is going to deliver something brilliant or utterly ridiculous.

Finally, we might see something related to Sister Abigail – maybe even an appearance from the mysterious figure. There are intriguing possibilities all around. This could also be a prime opportunity for the company to rebuild Bray Wyatt's credibility following his devastating loss against Orton on the Grandest Stage of Them All.

Have Wyatt win and take the WWE Championship to Raw to face Finn Balor and move Brock Lesnar over to SmackDown LIVE and face off against AJ Styles for the Universal Title. There is nothing that would make the WWE Universe happier, believe you me.

But, this is all wishful thinking. For now, let's hope that the WWE chooses one of the better options I've listed out here instead one of the terrible ones.
