The 2024 WWE NXT Deadline Premium Live Event saw the surprise return of Oba Femi as the last-minute replacement for Eddy Thorpe in the Men's Iron Survivor Challenge match. Femi was absent from television for 40 days before his latest appearance.
Not only did Oba Femi participate in the bout at short notice, but he overpowered the other superstars in the bout, securing a big win. With the victory, he earned a shot at the NXT Championship against Trick Williams. Meanwhile, fans were wondering why Femi was off television for months before making a sensational comeback.
According to a report from Fightful Select, Femi was absent from TV because he was enjoying his time off in Nigeria. He was not injured.

Femi lost his North American Championship after a 273-day reign against Tony D'Angelo at Halloween Havoc 2024. The six-foot-four-inch superstar is once again back in the title picture immediately after his return.
Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion praises Oba Femi and wants to face in future
Speaking at a recent Fanatics event, former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest teased a potential showdown against Oba Femi. He mentioned that the Nigerian superstar was bound to become a main event act in the future.
“That’s gonna be a megastar. You can just tell sometimes, and I mean, it’s all set up for him to just—he just has not taken his foot off the gas but, he’s gonna be fine so, I feel like that’s gonna inevitably happen anyway (…) Yeah, I’m not looking forward to that one [he laughed]," Damian Priest said.
A big win at Deadline 2024 will now allow Femi to start a storyline with current NXT Champion Trick Williams. It remains to be seen whether the creative team continues to push the 26-year-old ahead of his title showdown with Williams.
