RAW General Manager Adam Pearce introduced a new title in WWE, and more specifically the Women's Intercontinental Championship. It is the second new title that WWE brings to the Women's Division, following the Women's United States Championship.
According to RAW GM Adam Pearce, a tournament will kick off next week, with the winner becoming the new Women's Intercontinental Champion. The participants have yet to be announced, while it is very likely that the final will take place on the RAW premiere on Netflix on January 6, 2025.
WWE ensures the brand split stays intact
Over the past few weeks, we have seen superstars from RAW move to SmackDown and vice versa. This is normal with Survivor Series: WarGames fast approaching, but things will change moving forward.
WWE wants to maintain brand split, and after Saturday's Premium Live Event, roster moves will become limited.
This is why the company introduced the Women's Intercontinental Championship – to ensure that the brand split would stay intact. Following its introduction, the only shared title on the main roster is the Women's Tag Team Championship, which is defended on RAW, SmackDown, and NXT.
Now, the Women's Intercontinental Championship will be on RAW, while the Women's United States Championship will be on SmackDown.
It ensures that more female stars will get title shots
The Women's Division struggled for years, but things have rapidly improved over the past few years.
Aside from the Women's Championship and the Women's World Championship, the two new titles ensure that women on RAW and SmackDown will get title shots more easily and that their opportunities will not be compromised.
Thus, new storylines will be created, and more female stars will get involved, as happens with the Men's Intercontinental and United States Championships.
It is a boost for mid-card wrestlers in the women's division
With RAW and SmackDown being on a two-hour format, male and female stars are being left off WWE TV for creative reasons. This applies mainly to mid-card wrestlers, but this should now change.
As RAW and SmackDown are set to go to three hours from early January 2025 onwards, the Women's Intercontinental Championship and the United States Championship are a boost for the Women's Division, especially at a mid-card level, with more female stars set to appear on live TV going forward.
