Triple H has attracted a ton of criticism over the fact that the Money in the Bank PLE has only four matches advertised for tonight. Like much of the questionable decision-making surrounding WWE, though, this appears to be more of a TKO decision than a Triple H decision, considering that TKO is the 'promoter,' while Triple H is only the 'booker.'
In fact, this four-match card is reportedly a direct consequence of the WWE-UFC merger. Per Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer, WWE Money in the Bank, emanating tonight from the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, CA, "has to" culminate before UFC 316 starts.
While WWE has traditionally avoided going against UFC events, even when the two companies were fierce rivals in the world of combat sports, their merger obviously forces both divisions to refrain from counterprogramming pay-per-view cards at 10 pm ET. This is precisely why WWE only has four matches announced for the card.
While WWE PLEs have gone on air at an earlier time to avoid having to cut down on the card, WWE will also produce their first-ever truly cross-promotional event, Worlds Collide, earlier in the day. This event will feature wrestlers from AAA, a Mexican wrestling promotion that WWE recently acquired as well. Nonetheless, WWE & AAA remain completely different entities from the perspective of a brand, making Worlds Collide the closest to a 'Forbidden Door-esque' event involving WWE.
Logistical & productional considerations, and local West Coast time, would necessitate Money in the Bank starting not very early, and given the importance of both shows, it seems best for WWE to not cram too many matches on either show.
TKO is gearing up for a stacked Saturday with World Collide, Money in the Bank, and UFC 316
TKO is kicking off their mega weekend with Worlds Collide, which will take place at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, CA, starting at 3 pm EST and 12 pm PT (local time). The show will be live on YouTube globally. Meanwhile, Money in the Bank emanates from the Intuit Dome right down the street, starting 7E/4P, on Peacock in the United States and on Netflix globally.
UFC 316 will cap off a stacked day of shows for the company at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, kicking off at 10 pm EST (local time). The show is billed as UFC 316: Dvalishvili vs. O'Malley 2, with reigning UFC Bantamweight Champion Merab Dvalishvili set to defend his title against former champion Sean O'Malley in the main event.
