Not doing justice to the LGBTQ community

It honestly bothers me to the core that WWE’s current creative team can’t craft a storyline with enough grace to do justice to the LGBTQ community. We’ve made some progress, but we’ve still got a long way to go and I would hope that somehow, someday we’ll let two gay or two lesbian characters on TV fight it out and resolve their issues inside the squared circle.

I'll tell you guys what would be a match of the year candidate if it ever made it to WWE or NXT- Darren Young vs. LA's independent star, Jake Atlas. A little over a year ago, Dolph Ziggler’s brother Ryan Nemeth asked me if I would be down to work one of his fund-raiser shows in LA, and I said yes. I love the Nemeth brothers. I asked Ryan if I could work Jake Atlas and he set it up.

We tore the house down and for me going into my 18th year in the business now, the clash with Atlas was probably among my top 5 favorite matches of all time. I’m his biggest fan and since our match, I’ve been his biggest supporter in getting Jake signed to WWE because I want him to make his family proud.

In wrestling, we use the phrase 'married to someone in the ring', meaning you work with them every night on live events, etc. I always say that I want to marry Jake because he’s so smooth yet aggressive in the ring. He’s got great instincts and I wish him the absolute best in his wrestling career because this handsome young stud is just getting started.

We can’t deny the fact that professional wrestling does have a history of teasing lesbian storylines, not for the advancement of gay culture but to excite heterosexual men. I hope we can reach a point where we can have two homosexual wrestlers who have their first kiss in the middle of the ring, like a lot of male and female wrestlers have.

The crowd would genuinely support them, not boo them and not spit out any hate because you know my motto- 'In this world, we all receive hate for various reasons, but in order to be strong and successful, you must Block That Hate!' #BLOCKTHEHATE
