World of Sport could be returning to TV screens in the near future

What's the story?

PWInsider is reporting that World of Sport will make a return to ITV in the UK in the near future since TV tapings for the show have been announced in Norwich next month.

In case you didn't know...

The UK wrestling scene has seen a rise in popularity over the past few years thanks to WWE's United Kingdom Tournament back in January 2017, something that was seemingly pushed forward following World of Sport's reboot on ITV on New Year's Eve in 2016.

World of Sport was originally renewed for a 10 episode season later that year, but when Jeff Jarrett took over and Impact Wrestling became part of proceedings, it seems that the project hit a few problems and it was later announced that tapings were being postponed, even though many sources close to World of Sport reported that the project was dead.

The heart of the matter

PWInsider has revealed that World of Sport TV tapings will take place from Norwich, England (the venue of Paige's family's WAW show) from May 10th - 12th.

There is no update on which superstars will be part of the show this time around, but it is worth noting that this comes just after WWE revealed that they will return to the UK in June.

The company revealed a few weeks ago that a second United Kingdom Championship tournament will take place, live on the WWE Network in June, which could have led to World of Sport pushing forward and equalizing on this popularity.

What's next?

World of Sport's taping will take place from Norwich, England on from May 10th. Many of the biggest names who are part of the shows should be revealed in the coming weeks.

Author's take

The UK wrestling scene was once one of the biggest when World of Sport was first on TV, but it seems that WWE's involvement in the wrestling scene in recent years has definitely helped build the popularity.

Whilst this could be considered competition for WWE, iron sharpens iron and hopefully, this is just another way for the world to see the talent that the UK has to offer.
