WrestleMania 34: 5 best matches

An event of unexpected moments.
An event of unexpected moments.

The WWE WrestleMania 34 took place on April 8, 2018, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. The event saw title changes, unexpected returns, John Cena getting squashed, and a few moments one could never imagine in a thousand years.

WWE had put up a stacked match card with huge names like Daniel Bryan and The Undertaker making their WrestleMania appearance after a long time. The event witnessed huge twists and turns, with some jaw-dropping moments wowing the WWE Universe.

Out of the fourteen matches, a few were able to grasp the crowd's attention and receive a grand ovation from them. Here are the five best matches of WrestleMania 34.

#5 Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns

Lesnar retained his Universal Championship.
Lesnar retained his Universal Championship.

The main event of the night saw Brock Lesnar retaining his Universal Championship against Roman Reigns. The rivalry between the two superstars had elevated over the last few weeks with verbal and physical altercations taking place every time they stepped into the ring.

Everyone expected the contest to be brutal. Right from the get-go, the match became as chaotic as it could get. The two powerhouses didn't hold back to destroy one another in a quest to prove their dominance. Tables were destroyed, and the two rose to the occasion at the grandest stage.

The fight became a bloodbath with suplexes and superman punches going all around. After five F-5s and some gruesome punches to the head, Lesnar pinned Reigns clean and cemented his position as the top guy in the WWE.

"It isn't a prediction; it is a spoiler." - Reigns will remember these words for a long time.

#4 Seth Rollins vs The Miz and Finn Bálor

A Grand Slam Champion.
A Grand Slam Champion.

Seth Rollins joined his Shield brothers as a Grand Slam Champion when he defeated The Miz and Finn Balor to win his first Intercontinental Championship. The Kingslayer was the favorite to win the title and backed up what he said.

The three put up a clinical performance with everyone getting great offenses to make the match even more promising. The Miz dropped his cowardly heel image by dismissing The Miztourage and preferring to go alone.

The A-Lister and Balor had some believable near-falls which kept the crowd on the edge of their seats. But it was Rollins who swooped in on the opportunity and pinned Miz after a stomp to the head.

After a 65-minute performance against Roman Reigns and John Cena, Seth Rollins had become the top babyface of the Red brand, and now with the IC title around his waist, Monday Night Rollins has claimed his throne.

#3 AJ Styles vs Shinsuke Nakamura

A shocking heel turn.
A shocking heel turn.

WWE Champion AJ Styles defeated Shinsuke Nakamura in what was supposed to be a "dream" match. The crowd was expecting a phenomenal match between two of the best performers in WWE, and they didn't disappoint. (Well, to an extent)

Right from the entrance to the pinfall, the WWE Universe was completely into the match. With every near fall, the match became more and more exciting.

Styles and Nakamura gave everything they got, but it was The Phenomenal One who reversed a Kinshasa into a Styles Clash and came out on top.

The victory received a loud ovation, and just when everyone started appreciating Nakamura's kind gesture, The King of Strong Styles hit a low blow on Styles, turning heel in the process. As the final insult to injury, Nakamura delivered that promised Kinshasa, outside the ring.

It will be interesting to see how WWE books Nakamura from here. The fan-favorite superstar has just become a villain, and a heel turn might bring out the best in him.

#2 Kurt Angle & Ronda Rousey vs Triple H & Stephanie McMahon

A Rowdy debut.
A Rowdy debut.

Signing Ronda Rousey may have been the best decision WWE has made for the Women's Division. Her transition from an MMA fighter to a WWE superstar could be witnessed by her fluid moves and impressive performance.

Triple H carried the majority of the match with his standoff with Rousey getting loud pops from the crowd.

Stephanie too took all the bumps like a champ and made the latest WWE signee look like a legitimate threat. Kurt Angle too put up a great fight against The King of Kings, but with age, his moves didn't generate the hype that they used to before.

Overall, the match had great storytelling with The Authority portraying their villainous personas to perfection. The "baddest woman on the planet" got a bona fide WrestleMania moment out of her first match and claimed her first win in WWE.

#1 Charlotte vs Asuka

The Streak has been broken.
The Streak has been broken.

No guesses about which match takes the #1 spot. Charlotte versus Asuka had everything - buildup, storyline, emotions, and some amazing in-ring action.

Charlotte retained her SmackDown Women's Championship and ended Asuka's undefeated streak of 267 wins amassed over two and a half years.

The two best women wrestlers in the world put their heart and soul into a match that can be considered as one of the greatest of all time.

Both competitors oozed confidence as they stepped foot on the Grandest Stage. After much back and forth action from both ends, The Queen finally made Asuka tap to the Figure-8 leg lock, a moment that many in the WWE Universe had never expected.

Honestly, Charlotte Flair was ready for Asuka!
