Kalisto, Hideo Itami, and Akira Tozawa spoke on why they believed they would walk away with the Cruiserweight Championship at the Royal Rumble.

Tozawa and Kalisto are both working to become two-time champions, but Itami's hoping to capture his first piece of gold in the WWE. Next week, all three men will face off in a triple threat match, hoping to build momentum for the Fatal-4-Way.


Buddy Murphy cut a promo in the ring, claiming to be the greatest cruiserweight of all time. Murphy said that he'll be defending his title against three of the greatest in the world at the Royal Rumble, and next week's triple threat will prove which one of them is the best. Murphy then asked who wanted to face the champ.

Humberto Carrillo, NXT star and nephew of the legendary late Hector Garza, accepted Murphy's challenge. Murphy looked him over, then shook his hand.

Murphy took over early, taking him down and slapping his head. Back on their feet, Murphy brought Carrillo in with an armbar, bringing Carrillo down to his knees. Carrillo fought out, avoiding a leg sweep and locking Murphy down with a headlock.

Carrillo and Murphy dodged each other's striking combinations, and Carrillo forced Murphy into the corner. Carrillo avoided a snapmare, sending Murphy flying across the ring with multiple armdrags.

Murphy had a hard time staying ahead of Carrillo, who seemed to have an answer for everything the Juggernaut tried. However, outside the ring, Murphy finally sent him headfirst into the ramp, allowing him to take over again.

Back in the ring, Murphy kept his opponent on the ground, placing him in several holds while attacking his body with elbow strikes. Carrillo fought out and sent Murphy outside with a hurricanrana. Murphy simply walked away from Carrillo's suicide dive, sending him headfirst into the ramp again.

Murphy tossed him around ringside before sending him inside for some more punishment.

Murphy stomped his opponent out in the corner, then dragged him up for a superplex. Carrillo fought out, but Murphy drove him face first into the ring post. Carrillo managed to send Murphy crashing onto the apron, though and took back over.

A springboard kick to Murphy left him stunned. Carrillo went up and brought the champ down to the mat with a high angle crossbody. Murphy kicked out at two. Carrillo dragged Murphy to the corner, but Murphy brought his head under the top turnbuckle, attempting a superkick. Carrillo avoided, kicking Murphy away, then connected with a missile dropkick to the back of the champion's head.

Murphy managed to kick out, but he was hurt at this point. He caught Carrillo with a boot as he ran into the corner, but a kick stunned Murphy again. Carrillo went for a superplex, but Murphy fought him off. Carrillo landed on his feet and went for it again. Murphy dumped him, face fist this time, and took him down with a sunset flip.

Instead of the cover, Murphy picked him up and dropped him with a sit-out powerbomb. Carrillo kicked out. Both men attempted to suplex each other. Murphy escaped but seemed to injure his knee. The ref kept Carrillo in the corner as he checked on Murphy. Murphy took his knee pads off and attempted to walk off the pain. A second ref came down to inspect Murphy.

Carrillo started to clap for Murphy, who ended up playing possum. Murphy almost sent Carrillo packing with Murphy's Law, but Carrillo escaped. Carrillo sent Murphy outside and hit him with a suicide dive, then drove him head first into the announce table.

Carrillo went for a springboard move, but a jumping knee from the Juggernaut stunned him, allowing the champion to finish him off with Murphy's Law.

Results: Buddy Murphy defeated Humberto Carrillo via pinfall.

Murphy raised his championship high as Carrillo tried to shake off the cobwebs. Murphy was victorious in his open challenge, but would he be victorious at the Royal Rumble on January 27th? Who can stop the unstoppable?
