5 Superstars that could be the face of cruiserweight division

Kota Ibushi is a Superstar in every sense of the word.

The announcement about a new cruiserweight division on Monday Night Raw was one of the biggest talking points during the brand split. The Cruiserweight classic that WWE was running on the WWE Network probably had a direct impact on the decision to bring back the division. We are a few weeks into the brand split, but WWE is yet to roll out the division as they might be waiting for the Cruiserweight classic to wrap up.

WWE has already signed a few names from the tournament to boost their impending division, and they also have some superstars on the roster that could turn out to be the backbone of the division. In this list, we are going to take a look those current and potential WWE superstars that could be the face of WWE’s cruiserweight division.

5: Jack Gallagher

Gallagher can be a compelling character

The cruiserweights are known to impress the fans based on their in-ring ability rather than character. Most of the cruiserweights in the division that WWE previously had, did not boast any notable gimmick. This is what sets Jack Gallagher apart. He has this English Gentleman gimmick that turned out to be a huge success in the Cruiserweight classic.

And unlike the regular Cruiserweight wrestlers that fly around, Gallagher has a power game to display which he derives from the 2-0 Mixed Martial Arts career that he had before going on the professional wrestling career. With the right push, he could be a hero for the United Kingdom and a villain in the United States.

4: Brian Kendrick

Experience matters

Brian Kendrick is almost confirmed as a member of WWE's cruiserweight division and he is going to be one of the most experienced superstars in the division. Kendrick, who was a notable tag team performer in the WWE, also had success as single’s wrestler with the arrogant gimmick that he ran.

The recent interviews that he gave for the Cruiserweight Classic has one again brought him under the limelight and an experienced performer like him could be trusted with the responsibility of spearheading the division. WWE can let him be the backbone of the division with the newcomers trying to dethrone him, making a compelling storyline in the process for the entire division.

3: Neville

Neville brings the star power

Neville is one of those superstars that does not credit he deserves on the regular roster. Although he is a talented performer that knows to put together great matches, getting near the championship scene has been a hectic task for him. However, if Neville will be put into the Cruiserweight division, he will flourish there. The high flying and fast paced style that he brings to the table is a perfect fit for the division and with similar opponents, he could deliver some classics.

Also, having someone like Neville on the division or even as the Cruiserweight champion immediately adds credibility to the entire division since he already has a good fan following at the moment.

2: Heath Slater

Slater could undergo an easy transition

Heath Slater is not necessarily the typical cruiserweight performer. He is not known for the high-flying style that the cruiserweights are known for but at the same time, Slater is arguably one of the most entertaining characters on the roster. Though we might see him as a funny wrestler, he believes that he is worth millions, which is one way in which WWE could bank on him.

WWE could easily transition Slater into an underdog champion and let him change throughout his title reign and dominate the division. Just like Neville and Kendrick, Slater has a considerable amount of experience in WWE which would come in handy when the time arrives.

1: Kota Ibushi

If WWE signs him, it will be a big boost

WWE has been hell bound in signing Kota Ibushi and we can’t blame them. Ibushi is one of the most talented performers in the Cruiserweight classic tournament and the matches that he worked so far in WWE have been well above the benchmark.

He was the favorite to win the tournament before it even started and though there are recent rumors that suggest Ibushi might not sign with WWE, we never know. WWE could make an offer that Ibushi cannot refuse and he might end up on Monday Night Raw after all. If it happens, he would be the apt person to be the face of the division.
