2. The Funkasaurus is born
There was something “off” about the debut of Brodus Clay. Previously known for a stint on NXT (back when NXT was just a novelty gimmick program) and for being Alberto Del Rio’s menacing hired muscle, Clay’s debut was noticeably disrupted. Again and again and again.
Multiple backstage segments were shot showing Clay preparing for his debut, only to be told that it would have to be bumped to next week for time constraints. Little did the audience know what they were in for.
Rather than the big menacing monster heel everyone was expecting, fans were greeted with a theme song that once belonged to the notoriously anti-monster-heel Earnest “The Cat” Miller. Complete with a mirror ball hanging overhead, sweet moves and a smile that lit up the entire arena, Brodus punctuated his debut by breaking the stunned silence of the live audience after his music stopped with, “Oh, y’all didn’t see THAT coming!”No, Brodus. No, we didn’t.
