WWE Battleground and Star Trek – Two entities bound by a similar theme

How WWE Battleground and Star Trek Beyond are closely related

When soldiers go to war, battle lines are drawn and even when pitted against a foe, there exists a code of honor. But what do you do when you are faced with an adversary so cosmic that your reality is gripped by havoc?

WWE Superstars and the crew of the Starship Enterprise find themselves in the same boat with their backs to the wall. They will have to give in or give hell to save themselves.

After surmounting the inconceivable Khan Noonien Singh, Captain Kirk and his comrades are overwhelmed by a nemesis who has old ties to the federation – not unlike WWE Champion Dean Ambrose, who will have to cast asunder any reminisces of The Shield to keep his prize.

Ambrose will be up against his erstwhile brothers-in-arms Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns, who will be rested and focussed after his month-long hiatus. Both have developed a taste for gold, having held the WWE Championship more than once.

Young Captain Kirk will have to marshall all his forces to deal with his mysterious and seemingly impenetrable enemy. This is the same war tactic WWE tag team champs the New Day will have to discipline, facing the all-devouring Wyatt Family.

Sasha Banks will discover new strength not just in herself, but also her tag team partner at Battleground, when she tries to come out on top for the first time against WWE Women’s Champion, the predatory Charlotte and her formidable ally, Dana Brooke. The crew of the Starship Enterprise find reinforcements when all seemed lost – does the future hold such hope for Sasha Banks?

Despite having overcome seemingly impossible odds before, every challenge is a proving ground for the young crew. Just as the match for the Intercontinental Championship is to the resurgent Darren Young, who, under Hall Of Famer Bob Backlund, is going from strength to strength.

Captain Kirk was brought back to life by Dr. McCoy, but Long Island Iced Z, Zack Ryder won’t have anyone in his corner when he faces the brutal Rusev for the WWE United States Championship.

The Club are a well-oiled machine, with Styles, Anderson and Gallows having stood shoulder to shoulder in many past battles. John Cena, Enzo Amore and Big Cass are thrown together by circumstance. Can they and the crew of the Starship Enterprise manouevre past unfamiliarity to meet the enemy on an even battlefield? Only time will tell – this Friday when Star Trek: Beyond hits theaters and on Monday, 25th July, when Battleground airs on Ten Sports.
