WWE Extreme Rules: Predicting the match order

What will WWE have to offer on the night that it goes Extreme?
What will WWE have to offer on the night that it goes Extreme?

WWE Extreme Rules will go live this Sunday from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They have a stacked card for the show with ten matches announced so far. With some serious competition from AEW, WWE is forced to bring back their classic Attitude Era-style segments, and we must wait to see if that will reflect on Sunday’s PPV and if the show will live up to its name by turning extreme.

WWE is promoting two big matches for the show with the Undertaker & Roman Reigns teaming up for the first time to take on Shane McMahon & Drew McIntyre in a No Holds Barred tag team match. The second is the winner takes all mixed tag team match between Seth Rollins & Becky Lynch vs. Baron Corbin & Lacey Evans for the Universal & Raw Women's Championships.

We also have the other mid-card & women’s division matches, which has the potential to blow the roof off the arena. With all contests built up with a proper storyline, WWE would’ve had a hard time figuring out the match card for the event. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the potential line-up for WWE Extreme Rules.

#1 Drew Gulak (C) vs. Tony Nese - Cruiserweight Championship (Pre Show)

Gulak's first test as the champion.

Drew Gulak defeated Tony Nese and Akira Tozawa in a triple threat match at Stomping Grounds to win the Cruiserweight Championship. Nese defeated Tozawa on the following episode of 205 Live to earn a rematch for the title at Extreme Rules.

The match could take place at the Extreme Rules pre-show as WWE has been booking the cruiserweight matches on less significant spots on PPV's in the past, and we can expect the same to happen this Sunday.

#2 Braun Strowman vs. Bobby Lashley - Last Man Standing Match

Things went to to a whole new level!
Things went to to a whole new level!

Extreme Rules as the name suggests needs an extreme start to the show, and Braun Strowman & Bobby Lashley could do the job by opening up the PPV with their Last Man Standing Match.

The July 1 episode of Raw was the first show with Paul Heyman as the new Executive Director of the brand. Heyman decided to take the most underwhelming feud on the show and take it to a whole new level by adding his Midas Touch.

Strowman & Lashley competed in a Falls Count Anywhere match on the show where the ending saw Strowman driving Lashley through the LED boards to cause a series of explosions on the set.

It was a trip down memory lane for the fans to revisit WWE’s Attitude Era segments. Having this match open the show will give an explosive start to the PPV and could keep the fans engaged throughout the show.

#3 The SmackDown Tag Team Championship match

Otis & Tucker are the favourites to win this one!
Otis & Tucker are the favourites to win this one!

The third match of the night could be the triple threat tag team match for the SmackDown tag team titles between champions Daniel Bryan & Rowan vs. The New Day vs. Heavy Machinery.

Bryan & Rowan's title run has been pretty dry so far, and it looked like WWE was not even trying to make the reign look significant. The entire point behind this triple threat tag team match is to build-up Heavy Machinery as the next big tag team on the blue brand.

With rumors of Vince McMahon being very high on Otis, all signs point to him & Tucker winning the titles this Sunday at Extreme Rules. Big E & Xavier Woods are in the match only to draw the attention of the fans as we can't expect Daniel Bryan to go full-fledged in the bout.

#4 Aleister Black vs. Cesaro

This could be the match of the night!
This could be the match of the night!

Despite WWE putting a fair amount of emphasis on Aleister Black ever since he got drafted to SmackDown Live on the 2019 Superstar Shake-Up, we can’t expect this match to get a more significant spot on the Extreme Rules card. So this could be the fourth match on the line-up.

Aleister Black has been cutting cryptic promos inside a dark room awaiting a challenger. No one answered his challenge until someone knocked on his door on the June 25 episode of SmackDown Live.

WWE revealed the Cesaro as the mystery challenger on this week’s episode of SmackDown Live leading to their match at Extreme Rules. Both superstars are highly talented and have the potential to blow the roof off the Wells Fargo Center with their performance.

We must wait to find out who comes out victorious when Black & Cesaro lock horns this Sunday.

#5 The United States Championship match

The Phenomenal One could lift his third US title.
The Phenomenal One could lift his third US title.

The fifth spot on the card could go to the United States Championship match between the champion Ricochet and AJ Styles. Styles failed to win the title on last week’s Raw after Ricochet rolled him up for the pin.

After the match, Styles attacked Ricochet along with Gallows & Anderson reuniting the Club and turning heel in the process. The Phenomenal One will get another shot at the US title this Sunday at Extreme Rules.

After weeks of teasing an AJ Styles heel turn, the Phenomenal One finally embraced the dark side on last week’s Raw. With just two weeks after his heel turn and a clean loss to Ricochet, we cannot expect Styles to lose the title match this Sunday.

Styles could use the help of his brothers to win his third United States Championship at Extreme Rules.

#6 SmackDown Women's Championship match

Bayley has the odds stacked up against her.
Bayley has the odds stacked up against her.

The sixth match on the card could be the handicap match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship with champion Bayley putting her title on the line against Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross.

WWE is on the path to establishing Nikki Cross as the next big star of the blue brand’s women’s division. WWE paired her with Alexa Bliss on the 13 May episode of Raw, and the Goddess has been using Cross for her advantage ever since.

Nikki Cross announced that the match at Extreme Rules would be a handicap match and if she & Alexa Bliss wins the title they would be called as Co-Women’s Champions. The reason behind WWE making it a handicap match is to protect Bliss who is suffering from an illness.

We can expect Bliss to use Nikki Cross to get to her sixth women’s title this Sunday at Extreme Rules.

#7 The Raw Tag Team Championship match

Jimmy & Jey could become seven-time champs this Sunday!
Jimmy & Jey could become seven-time champs this Sunday!

The Usos have been getting personal with the Raw Tag Team Champions Revival for the past few weeks. After trading victories over each other in previous matches, the feud could culminate this Sunday when they clash for the titles at Extreme Rules.

The match could get the prominent seventh spot on the line-up as the Usos could win their seventh tag team titles on the show, and the new United States Champion AJ Styles could attack Jimmy & Jey along with the Club.

WWE had promised a big push for Gallows & Anderson along with AJ Styles while they signed a new 5-year contract with the company. While Styles could beat Ricochet for the US title earlier in the night, he could help his brothers set their sights on some gold by attacking the Usos.

#8 The WWE Championship Match

Can Joe choke out Kofi Kingston at Extreme Rules?
Can Joe choke out Kofi Kingston at Extreme Rules?

The WWE Championship match could get the next significant spot on the card. Kofi Kingston had defended his WWE Championship against some worthy competitors since winning the title at WrestleMania 35, but he will face a tough task at Extreme Rules when he put his title on the line against Samoa Joe.

Samoa Joe had ended Kingston’s 21-match undefeated streak when he made him pass out to the Coquina Clutch on the July 2 episode of SmackDown Live. That could be a hint that WWE views Samoa Joe as the perfect opponent to dethrone Kingston for the title, but we have to wait to find out if he can beat Kingston at Extreme Rules.

With SummerSlam just around the corner, WWE could use Kingston in a high profile match at the PPV, so we can expect him to retain the title against Joe at Extreme Rules.

#9 The Undertaker & Roman Reigns vs. Shane McMahon & Drew McIntyre

Will the Grave Yard Dogs reign supreme at Extreme Rules?
Will the Grave Yard Dogs reign supreme at Extreme Rules?

Roman Reigns will team up with The Undertaker at Extreme Rules to take on Shane McMahon & Drew McIntyre in a No Holds Barred tag team match.

Reigns had picked a fight with Shane McMahon when he nailed a Superman Punch on his father Vince McMahon when he got drafted to SmackDown Live on the 2019 Superstar Shake-up. It resulted in a series of back & forth altercations between the two, and Drew McIntyre, who had lost to Reigns at WrestleMania, joined forces with the self-proclaimed Best in the World.

The Undertaker came to Reigns’ rescue on the June 24 episode of Raw saving him from a beatdown at the hands of McMahon & McIntyre leading to the Extreme Rules tag team match. The Deadman made it clear on why he chose to help Reigns on the July 1 episode of Raw, but will he have something else on his mind? We’ll find out the answer at Extreme Rules.

#10 The Winner Takes All mixed tag team match

That's right guys, Baron Corbin will main event once again.
That's right guys, Baron Corbin will main event once again.

The main event of the night could be the Extreme Rules mixed tag team match between Seth Rollins & Becky Lynch vs. Baron Corbin & Lacey Evans. Rollins & Lynch will have the odds stacked up against them as they will lose both their titles if either one of them gets pinned by their opponents.

Rollins & Lynch has had individual problems with Corbin & Evans in the past, and the heels decided to work together to take out the power couple. Baron Corbin announced Lacey Evans as the special guest referee for the Universal Championship match at Stomping Grounds. The Sassy Southern Belle almost cost Rollins the title by nailing a low-blow on the champion before Becky Lynch made the save.

While Lacey Evans could be the right opponent to dethrone Becky Lynch, now might not be the time for Baron Corbin to win the Universal Championship. We can expect Rollins & Lynch to overcome the odds and stand tall with their titles to end the show.
