AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe - WWE Championship Match

Enter capti
The match finished with major controversy

AJ tried to hit Joe with a forearm on the outside, but Joe caught him with a knee. Joe and AJ met head-on and Joe slammed AJ into the steps for a devastating blow. AJ hit Joe with a vicious few punches and regained the control of the match.

Joe sent AJ to the outside and then followed up with a dive. AJ Styles almost hit Joe with a clothesline, but a shoulder-block from Joe saw Styles spin and fall. Joe put AJ on the top rope and tried to hit him with a Superplex, but Styles slid off and tripped Joe who went headfirst into the turnbuckle.

Joe and AJ sparred in the ring and Joe hit AJ with a Powerbomb into a modified Boston Crab. He then locked in a Crossface, with AJ scrambling for the ropes and finally getting there.

AJ went for a Phenomenal Forearm but was caught in the Coquina Clutch. AJ tried and failed to reach the rope but flipped himself over instead and pinned Joe while he was still holding onto the Clutch. AJ tapped but it was after the pin. Joe refused to accept it and picked up the title. A high-kick from AJ laid out Joe.

Result: AJ Styles defeated Samoa Joe and retained the WWE Championship.

A replay showed that AJ Styles had in fact tapped out. In a segment later, Paige told Samoa Joe that he would get a rematch at Super Show-Down.
